I also heard Karen Blake on a couple of mornings and thought she was very funny. On the days that she filled-in the show seemed to have a lot of people calling in (which you normally wouldn't hear).

Is Richard Hatch available?

Well now I suppose it's official! From AllAccess today:

"Karen Blake And Bob Lobel Wake Up Boston.

CBS RADIO Oldies WODS/BOSTON is teaming up KAREN BLAKE and guest-host BOB LOBEL to do mornings, starting this MONDAY (9/22). BLAKE, a 25-year BEANTOWN radio vet, segues from her afternoon shift, while LOBEL is a BOSTON television icon.

They replace another BOSTON radio legend, DALE DORMAN, who segues to weekends."

Also hear JJ is moving into afternoons, 2 PM - 7 PM, starting Monday.
Hmmm, 7 PM? What's going to happen at 7?

Speculation is going crazy on another discussion group that Lobel being hired could lead to WODS going sports... I can't see that happening though. CBS seems to like the Oldies/Classic Hits format, as they brought it back on CBS-FM last year. I'd like to know how much money WODS makes compared to WZLX and WBCN. If it is dramatically lower, maybe it's possible, but I doubt it.

Before I revisited the WODS website, I would have said the
dreaded "s-word" as in syndication, as in Tom Kent, as he has
recently been--or will soon be--installed in evenings on at least
two other CBS oldies classic hits stations (KOOL-FM PHX and
KXKL-FM DEN).

But after seeing there are/were two (two?!--how did the bean
counters miss that in February?) evening shifts, the more logical
scheme is to move the 9-1 jock to 7-12.

And to query further a post in the "Bob Lobel to Oldies 103" thread,
is the new AM drive show only going to air from 6-9, not 5-9?

As far as I know, no Boston morning shows start At 5. Dale's show did start at 5:30 though.

Who is Tom Kent?

If the afternoon shift will extend to 7 PM, then I'd imagine that's what they'll do. It wouldn't make sense for them to have a 7-9 PM airshift.

That would be Mike Finegan. I hope they let him stay. He's been with WODS since Day 1 (and on the frequency on WMRQ before that).

As I mentioned in an earlier post I heard Karen in the summer with a couple of different co-hosts. Once with or twice with Lobel and then with Dan Rae.  I have to say I was very impressed.  She seemed to blend very naturally with all of them. Between her and Lobel...there will definately be some fireworks on that show! I'll admit it - I'm gonna check it out!  Cheesy

I've got Oldies on now and just heard the (an) annoucement of Karen Blake in mornings with special guest Bob Lobel.  Now...don't get me wrong....I'm sure Karen is a superb wonderful, caring, exceptional person and I'm very happy for her.  However, given that I don't listen to her in afternoons, I highly doubt I'll listen to her in mornings.

If I do listen to her, it certainly won't be while Lobel is guest-hosting.  Lobel is one guy I can't stand watching on tv, never mind listening to on the radio.  I always thought he was THE most horrendous sports anchor in Boston.  But I'm sure he is also a wonderful person as well.   Grin

Is he recovered from his back surgery yet??  He was using canes and walkers for awhile.  Saw him a few weeks back on a NESN special and he looked absolutely awful.

Look for the Oldies website to update probably this weekend.

I'm guessing:

6am-9am  Karen Blake
9am-2pm  Paula Street
2pm-6pm or 7pm  JJ Wright (right back where he left when Karen first came in)
6pm-midnight or 7pm-midnight  Mike Finegan  (might as well match Julie Deveraux's 7-midnight shift on WROR)
midnight to 6am  No one unless they throw in that Jessica who has been filling in this week
