WVVB, Hoover?

My RDS says 105.5 The Vuclan is now WVVB.  And now radio-locator confirms that the FCC updated the calls today.  Anyone?

If that's the case, then that marks the demise of one of the longest lasting continually used call signs in the Birmingham market.  AFIK, the only longer-lasting calls are:

WBRC (ca. 1926-present, first on AM, then on FM,  now on TV)
WAPI (ca. 1928-present, first and currently on AM, but also used on TV and FM)
WJLD (ca. 1941-present)

I'm not sure which call signs came first, WENN (first on 1320, then on 107.7, then 105.9 and 105.5) or WATV (900 AM).  I know they both date back to the late '50's or early '60's.  WYDE would beat both of them, but there was a brief period in late '90's when WYDE-AM (850 at the time) changed their call sign to WMKI when it became a Radio Disney affiliate.

I just checked the FCC website. The calls were changed to WVVB on September 18.

Hey, look....WVVB...there's that "double sequence call letter" phenomenon I posted about earlier regarding Birmingham radio stations (some of the TV stations do this also, WTTO and WDBB, for instance). It must be some sort of conspiracy.... 

And another interesting note...I just found out where the WENN calls wound up. I did an AM query on the FCC website and typed in "WENN". The WENN calls are now on AM 1420 in Tuscaloosa, the longtime WACT.

Well, the decision was probably made by some corporate suit in an office in another state, who didn't think much of the appropriate and historical context of the calls.
