I shall now assume the role of Devil's Advocate:

How about giving Frog a break on this one?  He is, for all intent and purposes, a one-man show trying to get two brand new stations up and running at the same time.  He's probably about ready to climb the clock tower with a rifle at this point.  Every station on Earth has experienced technical problems at one point or another.  If you've ever been a station where something was wrong and you can't put your finger on the problem, it's frustrating for everyone from the GM to the sales department to the air staff. But the lonely engineer is the guy that winds up taking a majority of the heat, deserved or not. I know Frog and you can bet he's not sleeping much if there are problems.  My guess is that money and resources are being thrown at the problem, and they will eventually get it worked out.  Maybe instead of hurling ridicule in his direction (and I know that nobody has called him about and blamed him on this board, but you can bet when he reads the comments posted here, he takes it personally), someone should buy the guy a beer.  He probably needs one.

We once went through T1 trouble that lasted a whole MONTH!!  Our T1 went through three phone companies:  AT&T, Alltel, and ETC.  They all blamed each other and we went round and round.  When it finally got ironed out, it was like starting over.  I felt like calling all of our listeners and telling them that it was safe to listen again.  So Frog, I understand!  All you can do is get on the phone and yell.  Ofcourse, the louder you yell, the slower they go....

I don't see why this man is getting all this criticisim.  Back when I had a small FM station in my community, there were many times I would spend all my time trying to perfect it, just to watch something else happen.  There were times I had a loud hum in my audio bacause of shotty equipment, and after doing my best to fix it, still no better results.  It were times like that which I felt I could gauge someone's eyes out with my voltmeter should they had complained or fussed like they were Nancy Pelosi.  I would have pulled my hair out, but unfortunately my hair was (and still is) too short.

give this man a break. Cheesy

You "real" radio guys defending Frog are right. I've been there. It's like a cat chasing it's tail. Nothing ever works right.
Try having a hurricane blow you off the face of the map. That's a fun ride. But easier than dealing with phone companies.
FTR, my office phone lines still don't work right after 8 years of complaining, re-wiring, you name it. But, NO ONE can find
anything wrong...except to tell me when the try to call me back, the phone just rings and rings...while they're standing
there watching the phone ring...

Think Nancy would allocate a couple of billion to fix Frog's phone line problems? Hell no. Wait, unless he's filing his tax increases
over the same phone line. Good luck, Frog. We'--   ro-- in'  ---  you.

If it is in a bottle, it had better have a purple bag around it.....or if it's beer, I like Pilsner Urquell....just one engineer's preferences....

Wow! I had no idea so many people cared. Thank you!

Here was the deal:

1. AT&T tested the line, they said it was fine
2. Local phone company said the line was 'fine', but we insisted they do more than just talk. The attached a t-bird and viola! Extreme packet loss in Geneva on the smart jack
3. They replace the smart jack with an identical model...we put the station back in stereo and holy shit the problem is back.
4. They check cable and run more tests, problem is with the smart jack again.
5. Vendor meeting to get everyone on the same page. Local phone company says its AT&T, AT&T says its my Moseley Starlink
6. More tests are done, and the replace the smart jack with a much older version...problem disappears. I can now send full stereo audio and Ethernet without issues.

In the end, all three parties have just gone through a learning curve. We now have contact numbers and technicians who understand how/why our equipment works with theirs.

Problem solved...and on to the next one.

P.S. I love bottles with purple bags on them...they are my favorite flavor  Wink
