As you probably already heard, the announcement was about KGO going to Solar Power.

However, Ronn Owens just mentioned a moment ago that they haven't mentioned the new FM station nor the new permanent 10pm-1am talk show host yet. Sound like that's coming up shortly...stay tooned...

Well are you all feeling a bit foolish right about now? lol lol......

I'm not.  I didn't say anything about today's announcement.  I figured that the Announcement was simply a small marketing idea designed to shift listeners from one daypart to another.  It's an old trick: At 8pm you talk about a special announcement that will happen in the morning in a few days.  Then you don't make the announcement and count the complaint calls.  By extrapolating the number of calls you gauge how many people you can move from the less-lucrative nighttime daypart to the big morning daypart.  Then you develop marketing to shift those listeners.

THAT was what I was expecting.  And I'll admit that I tuned in to hear what they'd do.

Frankly, I'd thought the solar was already online.

I haven't listened to KGO is awhile, and I was only able to listen in the car this morning about 9:15 - when Ronn Owens was complaining about people who trash him for not being left-wing enough, nor right-wing enough. He went on-and-on at considerable length about himself and repeated (for the umpteenth time) the history of his tenure at KGO, and the brave fight he put up to syndidate his show in the 90s.  According to Ronn, his lack ot success was because he was not willing to move to the right, or to the left politically.  Such courage! The whole rant was quite self-congratulatory.

Therefore, I predict that the big (delayed) announcement will be (drumroll please)...Ronn Owens's Ego will be the new 10 PM to 1:00 AM host. His Ego has signed a new $750,000 contract.

My somewhat reliable source says that there will be no announcement of a permanent host in the near future.  This makes sense given that to hire a fulltime person for that low-listener shift during these hard economic times does not make good business sense.  Keeping the parttimers saves lots of money.

I thought that too, but I think that was their transmitter near the Dumbo. I wonder if this announcement was that it is finally on line at the transmitter, or if the station itself is solar now. I didn't catch that during the announcement.

And no further word from Ronn yet on the FM station or the 10-1 host. Standing by on 810 AM...

Well, Ronn never did elaborate on the tease about the FM station and the 10-1 host. I guess we'll all have to wait...but for how long?

I think we've been had.  By engineers and webmeisters who read this board.  But it was fun!

Yep, NO ONE saw it coming.

No one saw solar coming because we thought it was already hooked up.  Those panels have been visible out by the bridge for ages.

Heck, I have friends in Richmond who run the meter backwards and manage to heat their hot tub, too.  I have customers in SF who run their entire house on just a few roof panels.  Solar's not that big a thing these days.

That's pretty funny. I guess April Fools day came a little early... Wink

But with all that, I STILL wonder when they are going to settle on the 10-1 talk show host...if ever.
