I wouldn't try to call them though - website says they get 1500 calls a day.  That's about one a minute around the clock 24/7.  They probably have 50,000 listeners as well - no wait a minute, that is someone else.

The current website for WELE is http://www.news1radio.net/. No mention of the air charter business.

Bob
www.cflradio.net

Bob they are also using www.newsoneradio.net which I had registered for them while I was GM over there. The idea was K. P. and I were taking WELE more news oriented with enhanced local talk under the new moniker NEWSONERADIO. Unfortunately that never happened, although I did managed to get ABC/E news and Paul Harvey before he passed away. I had also added Dave Ramsey, Laura Ingraham, FNN News, Florida Rountable, Better Lawns and Gardens, Michael Savage and a few others that I had managed to negotiate away from WNDB by bringing said programming to the bigger 5kw signal. We were also adding a local news department. However, Wilhite never let me place anything other than ABC News and Paul Harvey on air and the coup I got for WELE with the enhanced programming was basically swept under the rug. So, although local news never made it as planned, for whatever reason, they decided to go with the newsoneradio.net web domain anyway although there is essemntially no news on WELE. I am, however, creating another NEWSONERADIO in another Florida market. Stayed tuned for details coming later.

If all you want is the real estate, there's no need to involve the FCC. The Commission is only concerned about the license and that's it, which at the moment is in the "Pending" renewal stage, so, as mentioned in other posts, the license cannot be transfered just yet.

By the way, I like your town house development idea.

gowingsair.com is still down unless there is a problem with my PC. I have no problem accessing any other website. Is there another domain being used for the air charter service that I am not aware?

I must have made a mistake. That old one WAS bad, sorry. I went to a general info site and mistook it for Wilhite.
Look at the change at their main site now http://www.wele1380.com/

I think all the email addresses associated with wele1380.com still work although mine was set up as "mark@newsoneradio.net".

Townhouses sound like a good idea but the property looks pretty small.  How about a small business - Arby's or something?  However, I'd still like to see Ormond Beach have a quality local radio station.  Hope there are some takers out there.  Question- if someone purchases the radio station, could they petition the FCC to cancel Wilhite's pending license and apply for a clear license?

There are always "what if" scenarios and for all purposes just about anything is possible with the FCC. It all depends on how good of an FCC attorney a potential taker has to convince the Commission to renew and transfer. I would hate to see the AM 1380 frequency go dark, especially considering it's the only locally licensed radio service to Ormond Beach and it's also the strongest AM signal in Daytona Beach. I believe there is good cause for a valid argument before the Commission to renew and transfer the license as this would be consistent with the Commission's Public Interest initiatives. It'e never in the public interest to lose a community's ONLY locally licensed radio service.

Big APE, I am not at liberty just yet to disclose where the new NewsOneRadio is going. I can only say, for the moment, it's in a Top 100 Florida market. Stay tuned for more details coming soon!

Regarding the townhouses or any other development project on the WELE site, the building and land underneath is the only radio station real estate Wilhite owned. The towers are on property owned by a mobile home park but Wilhite has a 99-year pre-paid lease to keep the four towers in place with approximatley 70+ years remaining on the lease. This lease arrangement was put into place under the former Hunter-Knight Daytona, Inc. (1977 - 1983). One possible scenario would be to move the studios and offices to an office complex and sell the building and land. The towers can remain in place, and something more economically profitable could realistically be placed on the vacated WELE property. That way the land is being utilized at its highest and best use while Ormond Beach still has its only locally licensed radio station on-the-air.
