I recall Scott Walker (not the singer Scott Walker) when I lived in Orlando, up to 1982, WLOF.

As for Mason, my amusing story was from years ago at a MacDill Airfest where he had an appearance. I happened to stumble upon a "pirate" signal on the low end of the FM dial prior to entering the base, and it turns out he was using it as the audio link. He became very upset that I a) discovered it  b) asked him about it  c) had the audio and frequency displayed on my handheld scanner. LOL!

Ever hear the phrase what goes around comes around....It really does work.
Mason is way beyond the normal run of the mill egomaniac's in this industry.
He gives it a new ugly head.
He has treated people poorly for many decades,and just now will start
receiving his paybacks. Maybe this will be a learning curve he will pay attention to.

Like him or not, Mason is a guy who has managed to survive--and prosper--in a business that continues to get more difficult with each passing year.  And he's done it by staying in one market.

Granted, he's done it by hurting a lot of others along the way (both personally and professionally it seems) but the guy at least deserves a little more respect than he's getting on this board.  The path he chose to get him where he is is in many ways a sad one; but as they say, that's business.  And... that's radio.

from what i have read and heard about the new pd - scott walker - he is very good at getting the best out of his staff and he knows the format very, very well.

Correct. Through backstabbing. He learned first hand from Randy Kabrick how to manipulate a GM and SPIN things to his advantage. Or was it the other way around.

 I was in LA when KHJ flipped. I remember Robert W. Morgan, the Real Don Steele, Sam Riddle, Dave Diamond, Johnny Williams, and I guess too many names to remember when you have 7 airshifts daily. It certainly was a great station and I listened all summer "up and down the Malibu beaches". I don't see why all this bickering is going on about Mason's character. I heard John Rook was rough to work for back in the day of KQV in Pittsburgh. He even had directives on which doors to use. I know cause I was related to someone connected to KQV and was a mascot for awhile. Now he is a legend. It seems the topic should be what direction will WRBQ be taking. Will WSJT flip. They played Clapton this morning. Maybe he is "blues", but hardly elevator jazz.

 Does anybody have anything concrete to add, or this just "Let's trash Mason " hour?

Before anybody asks why I dump on Mark Larsen and defend Mason who is probably just as conservative, this particular post is not about Mason's politics, but I thought about the future of WRBQ with a new management philosophy.
