What's going on with WAYA?  They previously had been "Cat Country" before switching to classic hits recently as "Tennessee 93.9"  but lately it seems they have gone back to country.  I realize this may be old news, but I'm on the far edge of the signal, so I can't hear the station often.  My question is... why did they ditch the classic hits format after only a few months?

The  group that owns WCLE bought WAYA earlier in the year from Brewer and moved it to classic hits.  Then they recently bought 93.1 liscensed to Benton which had been dark since dropping a regional Mexican format.  So after they completed the purchase,  they moved the classic hits format to 93.1 and the new country format
To 93.9.   So currently 93.1 is classic hits as "Ocoee
93.1" and 93.9 is doing country as "Tennessee 93-9".  They also own AC WCLE "Mix 104.1".   My understandind is that the coverage area of 93.1 was better for classic hits and 93.9's more rural area was better suited for country and that's why they swapped them.

They do not own WCLE-FM.  That was picked up by a local owner last year from Walt Williams.  They also own WBAC-AM in Cleveland, WDNT-AM in Dayton and WXQK in Spring City (which is currently dark).

Sorry, my bad.  I always thought WCLE was part of that group too.    There was a thread about the format swap of 93.9 and 93.1 on the Chattanooga radio board at sceniccity.proboards98.com.  That's really the best place for Chattanooga are Radio info.

This is the SAME group who owns WCLE 1570, who freely admitted they dont power down to 84 watts at night 'cuse they won't cover anything if they do.....!
