92.3 is and always will be the unwanted red-headed stepchild in the cluster.

Aint that the truth!

Didn't we used to say the same thing about the station when we were "Jammin"? Smiley

I don't think the playlist is very good at all. It's too dumb to be world class rock yet would perplex any Sum 41 fan. I see the 25-54 angle but those are just the wrong songs

That was ten years ago. Jammin' Oldies: The. Worst. Format. Flip. Ever. (Ahead of "Sports Voice of the Fan" WHK/1420's 1997 fire sale to Salem and the second death of WRMR.) "Jamn' 92" was one of the hottest stations in town, with a signal that perfectly fit their target demo range. And AM/FM foolishly killed it for a flavor-of-the-month format that was as bad as "Jack."

And regardless of whomever owns that frequency, it will never be competitive again. A station like 92.3 is destined to be a repeater for an AM signal than anything else.

If I were bidding on the CBS/Cleveland cluster, I'd trade the 92.3 signal for the 96.5 signal that Clear Channel has to give up. Put the "Radio 92.3" format there, and it could have a chance.

Steele is out. We'll miss you.  Cry

As is Nard, Verlane and whatever weekenders they had left. Plus, Sean "Bull" Robertson and production director Tony Frazier were canned with the previous downsizing sweeps in the cluster. So everyone... is... gone... all... gone.

It's addition by subtraction in the PD arena: WDOK/Q104 PD Dave Popovich assumed PD duties for 92.3 and WNCX, but obviously takes the reins now with Nard gone. By blowing everyone out, it saves CBS even more money. (This is similar to what happened a few weeks back in SF, when CBS took reincarnated heritage oldies outlet KFRC-FM, and killed it to relay their 50kW all-news sister station, KCBS-AM.)

I heard them earlier this hour running a spot for a "Inner Sanctum" concert open to the public hosted by Pat the Producer this coming weekend. And Pat was almost certainly fired, and the show had to have been canned. Great job, CBS.

Is it 100% certain that Nard, Verlane and Rachael are gone?   I'm still hearing Verlane doing alot of the commercials.  Maybe when the  djs' return Nard, Verlane and Rachael will be back.

Anyone have any ideas as to what to name the station.  I hope they don't plan on calling it radio92.3.

When did they flip??  I heard O&A on the air this morning...must have been right after.  I knew something was up when I heard Nard on the air Sunday evening, no Inner Sanctum last night.

Musically I think the playlist could be better, but its an improvement over K-Rock, which had really been posing as WMMS junior for the past 6 months or so.  The variety is nice, something that has been sorely lacking in Cleveland rock radio for a while.   Six months without any jocks would be a shame though, no way it survives in the long term as just music/bumper/music.  I wouldn't think any of the former jocks will be back, which is fine, really won't miss Nard or Verlane.  Funny thing is Pat and Bull would have been much better suited to this format than the very active leaning K-Rock.

What moniker is left that they HAVEN'T tried there yet? Xtreme, X, K-Rock...they've pretty much run the gamut of super-cool-edgy rock station monkers.

They'll keep Radio 92.3. As someone earlier pointed out, they sound a lot like CC's Radio 104.5 in Philadelphia. They even share the same exact logo.

Anyway, "Radio 92.3" fits the anti-radio/hype-less approach they're taking with the format.

Don't forget CC's Radio 106.7 in Columbus and Radio 94.1 in Cincy (although the latter is less modern rock that the others). And Channel 104.3 in Baltimore, which is notable for how badly their ratings have tanked after a flip from smooth jazz...

CBS may keep the WKRK calls on 92.3... only because it's now simply to park the calls after a long run in Detroit. Plus, it is the 12th set of call letters in that star-crossed stations' history.
