the worst song is newsong- christmas shoes, that has to be the most corny song ever,
and also all the new Christmas music is awful, Jessica Simpson, jewel, etc.

and that, folks, is what's great about this Board - we can all have different tastes about things, and it's all good... Smiley

NOW as for Newsong, even though it's corny, i kinda liked "The Christmas Shoes" Smiley - now going back to a thread of several months ago about secular songs in a Christian format or vice versa - this one would DEFINITELY fit in - just put it right behind Bob Carlisle's "Butterfly Kisses", and it's an automatic done deal... Smiley but i DO agree with you on the Jessicas, the Jewels, etc. - although if you wanna check out something NEW that's kinda cool, check out Aretha Franklin's FIRST Christmas CD - released in October - this IS what it's ALL about!!

I'll see every song that's been mentioned here and raise you "Put The Loot In The Boot, Santa" by Mae West. However, "Wonderful Christmastime" is one of those songs that, the more you listen, the more annoying it gets...From the intro that sounds like the creepy segue music on "In Search Of", to the line "The choir of children sing their songs/They've practiced all year long" ("Can Jimmy go swimming?" "No, he's practicing his Christmas songs") to the line "So lift a glass/And don't look down" (Why not? Are you on top of the Empire State Building?)...Actually, congratulations, Mae, you're at Number 2 now!

Four way tie in my opinion:

I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas

Dominic The Donkey by Lou Montie

Blue Christmas by Porky Pig (Yeah I know people say its not him, but on every station that plays it the jock says it's by Porky Pig).

All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth

As for Silent Night, they played an awesome version on Tuesday on HOT 93.7 - Hartford's Hip-Hop Station. It was a very soulful version by The Temptations.

Gee how often is the same song on both a Hip-Hop Station and an Oldies station?  Grin (Aside from when the former plays 70s R&B during its old school blocks).

I consider "Wonderful Christmastime" sort of a generic "throwaway" song that Paul wrote only because he felt some sort of "obligation" to write a "Christmas" song!  He never even put it on an album (that I'm aware of), and he didn't even credit it to his group Wings, even though they were still together at the time (although they were about to break up).

I also consider his song "Freedom" (written right after 9-11) to be in the same vein.  It never sounded to me like he put too much thought into "Freedom."  However, I expected it to be a big hit anyway, because wasn't it a charity single?  (Sorta like Elton John's "Candle-'97.")  But that didn't happen.  I only heard it once or twice, then never again.

i thought i recall that when the record (i'm dating myself here, but who the heck cares? Roll Eyes) was released, on the label it said "Paul McCartney and Wings"....

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
