-When your fill-in guy is also the janitor and your listeners KNOW he's the janitor.

-When you go to the towers to take base-current readings and the Chief Engineer says "Watch out fer the 'gators and check fer copperheads when you open the tuning shack door."

-When you pick up the phone and an elderly woman asks to talk to a jock who's been gone for twenty years and subsequently asks you to wish happy birthday to their love child.

-When you come to work and find the doors chain-bolted with a notice of eviction from the county sheriff because the station is 180 days past due with the rent.

-When the ethnic (Polish, Hungarian, Ukranian and Russian) programming on Sunday morning bills more than the regular weekday programming.

-When the hosts of the ethnic programming sneer and tell you their programming is keeping you employed.

Heh, I had that happen to me once in the middle of my shift.  Sheriff showed up, everyone had to leave, then the locks were changed.  Station was only live in drivetime, so we just potted up the satellite.

When more Xmas cards come for the guy who was there 16 years ago than for anyone else.

When salespeople go to a perspective client & the client knows more of the announcers' names & shift time than the salesperson that works there.

When you have a remote at the local fair & they refuse to let you in & you have to fake it in the parking lot outside for 4 hours.

When you don't even have your own station programmed into memory on your car radio.

When there are autographed pics on the lobby wall of your morning & afternoon guys...but neither have ever been to your building or town much less.

When you go to do a contest & the winner didn't know a contest was even going on- they just wanted to hear some Mr. Big.

When someone calls in a request & you hear another station playing in the background.

When a relative calls the office line & asks to speak with (your real name)...the sales/office person that answers the phone says, "There's no one here by this name".

When you do a bumper sticker promotion, pull someone over and with your stations mike flag in their face you ask "what's your favorite radio station?" and they say a different one

That one's a tossup.  There are some people who are so identified with their air name that few co-workers even know their real name.

You're in a bad media market when you go to apply for a job and you're given a blank sheet of paper instead of a job app and told to fill it out.
