And do you propose multiple feeds of "Price," as "GL"
is done now...say at 10 AM and 11 AM (ET), or even
at 3 as counterprogramming to "GH"?

Though I don't see a way a 3 pm feed at this time would make sense to take on GH (I'm all for counterprogramming, but I'm not sure Price is the show to do it any more), something like a 10 and 11 (or 9 and 10...whatever) dual feed option for Price could work as part of an overhaul of the CBS daytime schedule.

The question was intended to get everyone's opinion; frankly, I
don't see a network game show working in the afternoon, either.
"Price" did air at 3 at one time--about 35 years ago.  You should
get my drift.

Second, Don Fedderson did do "My Three Sons" and "Family Affair,"
and he syndicated Lawrence Welk for 11 years.

Third, on the subject of "most CBS affiliates" carrying "Guiding Light"
in the morning: true, probably a higher percentage of the country
sees it in the morning, given the fact that it's on in several major
markets.  I won't argue that.  But a literal reading of "most CBS
affiliates" tells me that all but 16 (Sacramento doesn't carry it at all)
carry it at 3 PM (ET), which is how I interpreted the statement.
Advertisers, I think, would want that morning audience in
New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston, Detroit, Orlando, Miami,
Pittsburgh, and Baltimore (because of market sizes as much as time
slot), so the response to my posting is on-track.

But what seems so strange is that "GL" keeps losing audience, no
matter what time it's on, yet CBS keeps renewing it; it is set for
the rest of this year with an option for 2010.

Indeed, CBS has been patient with GL.  Whether it's a devotion for a piece of real broadvasting history, a lack of focus on development for something else to fill the hour or something else, who knows.  But sooner or later even the most patient programmer will pull the plug.

It could eventually reach the point where the CBS daytime lineup
consists solely of "Y&R" at 12:30 (or 11 AM in the earlier time zones) and
"B&B" at 1:30, while CBS follows NBC's lead and gives back 11 AM,
2 PM, and 3 PM.  Of course, that means ABC would be running virtually
unopposed (only "All My Children" would face a network show on CBS),
an idea that seems a bit far-fetched.  But with daytime audiences
shrinking, and Fox stations making a ton of money for lack of a network
lineup, I don't discount anything at this point. After all, if NBC goes
through with its plan to drop "Days Of Our Lives" by the end of this year,
it will have surrendered the daytime field (I consider prime daytime to be
11 AM-4 PM, so I don't count the "Today" show).
What are the chances of a 5th and 6th hour of the "Today" show?

I'm still waiting for the day when you'll hear "Stay tuned for the Today Show at 7 AM followed immediately by the NBC Nightly News at 6 PM."  Cheesy

Sometimes I think that might actually be an improvement.  Roll Eyes
