Flipping through the dial the last couple of days, I noticed a couple of format changes here in central AL, albeit they're not huge ones.

First off, Talladega's WTDR "Thunder 92.7" has changed/evolved into a classic country format from their previous country format, still calling themselves "Thunder 92.7" but adding "Country Legends" before their name. Speaking of WTDR, anyone know whatever became of their plans to rebroadcast their WSYA-AM on the translator in Anniston?

Also, I noticed that spanish stations WZGX in Bessemer and WQCR in Alabaster are now simulcasting with each other (I'm not really sure which one of the two stations "took" over the other one, as I don't habla espanol. Smiley That just leaves the WZGX/WQCR combo to compete with WPSB 1320. A side note: WZGX must be having some technical issues since it periodically disappears from the dial, leaving WQCR on its own.

If WZGX and WQCR are now simulcasting, it shouldn't come as a real surprise.  I don't think that Birmingham's Hispanic population has grown enough to support three Spanish language stations.  It certainly couldn't support four, since 1480 has flipped from Spanish to Catholic.

The move with the AMs is smart.  There's no sense having two different regional Mexican formats when the two stations don't really have overlapping coverage.

I believe 1500 was called "La Cen Q" and 1450 "Las Dobla Equis".  Either way the presentation on both stations was too fast for this gringo to decode what was going on!

In the really insignificant format news department, my hometown station WMFC-FM 99.3 was one of many stations affected by the merger of satellite services from Jones Radio and Dial Global.  So Jones' 'Good Time Oldies' has essentially segued into 'Kool Gold'.  Kool Gold seems to play a lot more '80s hits, while GTO stayed mostly true to the 50s through 70s formula.

That is all.  Cheesy
