i was driving on 78 monday evening to a clients home and drove right past the old wlph studio/tower while listening to 1070 (wapi).  i didn't notice until i had looked over at the building and there was no interference/overtake by the 1480 signal.

just wondering if the new catholic owners have given up as well, if thee is a maintainence problem or what may have happened to them.

anyone have the scoop?

They're still off this morning, although I thought I heard them on the air a few days ago flipping through the dial. Queen of Heaven just bought WLYG in Hanceville, not really sure if the sale has gone through or not. Attempting to grow just a little too fast maybe...

They are installing a new ground system.  They cleared the growth around the property and are installing it this week.  It is hard to keep a solid state transmitter on the air when you are messing around with the tower and ground system.  They will probably be back on next week.

it is hard to keep ANY transmitter on the air in those cases.

when i was at lph (85-88) the transmitter was a hybrid with the preamp and some of the components still using tubes.  even the board was an old tube, gates i think, rotary pot with modification.

glad to see them upgrading.  that tower/studio was a very happy place in my time there.

Didn't they run Kahn stereo back in the 80's?

never went stereo to my knowledge.  the old 5k transmitter wasn't up to the task.  (ps back then nighttime wattage was 26 so we closed down at dusk).
