KFOG has officially announced that Annalisa will take the helm of 10 @ 10 starting Monday June 1. Along with the announcement of Dan Pardo retiring, there will be a new announcer. They did not give a name as to who the new announcer will be. Someone famous? Someone in-house? Unless anyone knows on this board, we'll find out on Monday

This sounds like a better plan than endless re-runs of Morey's old shows. Annalisa is a really good talent.

I'm sure they'll use the in-house KFOG "announcer-voice guy". It's cheaper.

nice spin in the KFOG email:

Our beloved Dave Morey is now happily retired.  And while our wish was to have Dave continue as host, his commitment to 10@10 will wrap up this month.  Coincidentally, the incomparable Don Pardo has also announced his retirement (at age 91!).  As you can imagine, this will mean a few changes to KFOG's 10@10.

As always, we look to you, Fogheads, for your input.

KFOG's 10@10 will continue to deliver 10 great songs from one great year covering everything from the '60s to today.  We'll add in a lot of your favorite 10@10s including classic 10@10s from over the years, Foghead 10@10 sets handpicked by you, as well as themed 10@10s voted by you.  And it will be you, the Fogheads, who will vote each 10@10's "Best of Set."

And we found the perfect host to introduce each day's 10@10 while allowing the music, news and additional audio highlights speak for themselves.  Drum roll, please.

Starting Monday, June 1st, our very own Annalisa will take the baton as your new host for KFOG's 10@10.

The set-list for today's final Dave Morey "classic" is already posted on the KFOG website; it would seem to have been chosen specifically for the occasion if the last song is any indication.

I'm saddened by this -- basically, the cheap bastards at Cumulus didn't want to pay Morey for new shows even tho' he was more than willing to continue producing them -- but I'm willing to give Annalisa the benefit of the doubt.  There are fine "10@10"s on other stations around the country: The Peak in suburban NYC; The Drive in Chicago; and more recently The Sound in LA; there's also a "9@9" on "Bob" in Austin, TX.  And they all manage to do these shows without a lot of the Bells and Whistles that KFOG used. So I'm hopeful it will continue to be enjoyable.

We tried to do it without the bells and whistles on WNCS. Ratings were really good out of the gate, but then fell apart. It's gone now. The production is really important to make the show work.

Funny you should say that; KBCO in Boulder did a 10@10 that was very music-intensive and didn't rely as much on news and movie/TV clips.  It was quite good; the jock (a woman simply known as Ginger) was at least as much a "music geek" as Annalisa. But they discontinued it last year, as she felt it was (a) getting stale and (b) the "oh wow!" songs (which I find to be the best part of any 10@10) were alienating the mainstream Triple-A audience members who just wanna hear more Feist.

When I became aware of other stations having 10 @ 10's, I equated that as KFOG's being syndicated. Because one of Don Pardo's announcements was, "Coast to Coast, this is 10 @ 10!"

It was not syndicated as far as I know or I would have taken it!

10 @ 10 was not syndicated. It was a Dave Morey creation only at KFOG. While I lov eall the other KFOG DJ's, 10 @ 10 won't be the same without him.

and that's why we call radio "the theater of the mind"...

BTW, KFOG is inviting listeners, er, "Fogheads", to audition for Pardo's announcer slot. One lucky 10@10 fan will get to be famous (and presumably unpaid).

So, any reaction to Annalisa's first 10@10?  They had a loud annoying "announcer guy" type (temporary, I'm assuming, since they're soliciting listeners to take over that role) and the year is given by a new, stuttery computer voice that sounds like "Conky" from Pee-Wee's Playhouse.  No buzzer to end the set, instead we got a video-game-style "Game Over" sounder. The year was 1995; '90s years have traditionally not been visited that frequently in the past.
