Some formats  just do not count anymore---'qew standards and  now 'qxr ----so why even contemplate a return of country.Even the shruburbs are going hispanic, just walk into walmart in central jersey!!!!!Soon even places where y107 did well will not be as country friendly as they once were---look at 540 in long island and its hispanic format.

Yep. I've wondered why none of the suburban stations recently have flipped to country music. It there is such a demand for country music on the radio then that would have happened first.

Like who?  WMJC in Smithtown was country for a while.  Their signal really limited their ability to cover Long Island.  Didn't they add a translater in the Hamptons at one point?  Over in NJ, there are several AM stations in the northwestern counties, and there's an FM station near Bay Head.  Citadel bought a station in Westchester County that has been country for a while.

The problem is they're small stations without much impact.  What the area needs is one big powerhouse that covers the entire region.  As I've said, there are enough fans of the music to get at least a 2 share.  At some point, that will be a huge number for someone.

I think if faced with a choice to get a 2 share with less desirable demos, or a 2 share with a format like what's on 101.9 or 92.3, they'll opt to stick with the latter.

But as I've said, country gets a very desirable demo.

It's only desirable if the ad agencies see it that way.

The Wolf in San Francisco is now the #7 station in the latest PPM ratings.  SF was another market that many said was too "sophisticated" for a successful country station.

It really is time for someone to give country another shot in NYC.
