Excellent reply Silkie. The words in the first verse are especially appropriate in this case. Thank you; I also thought the third and fifth were apropos, given our friend was talking about job and past "dying" - not that people of 27 would pay us any mind, but what the heck.

I would say, "It's a sign of the times", but that's such a worn out phrase. Wish that I were more literate.

LOL Petula Clark had a positive view of "the sign of the times", Re: It's a sign of the times That your love for me is getting so much stronger It's a sign of the times And I know that I won't have to wait much longer You've changed a lot somehow from the one I used to know-oh-oh For when you hold me now it feels like you never want to let me go
It's a sign of the times That you call me up whenever you feel lonely It's a sign of the times That you tell your friends that I'm your one and only I'll never understand the way you treated me-ee-ee But when I hold your hand I know you couldn't be the way you used to be
refrain Maybe my lucky star at last decided to shine Maybe somebody knows how long I've waited to make you mine, mm, mm, mm
I'll never understand the way you treated me-ee-ee But when I hold your hand I know you couldn't be the way you used to be
refrain Maybe my lucky star at last decided to shine Maybe somebody knows how long I've waited to make you mine, mm, mm, mm
It's a sign of the times That you kiss me now as if you really mean it It's a sign of the times And a year ago I never could have seen it Don't ever change your mind and take your love away-ay-ay Just leave the past behind and, baby, only think of how it is today
It's a sign of the ti-imes It's a sign of the ti-i-i-i-imes It's a sign of the times It's a sign of the ti-i-i-i-imes

GridLeakBias,
you stole my thunder!
When I read "It's a Sign of the Times"; I immediately thought of the Petula Clark song.
btw- from what I understand, she is still going strong at least as of 2005 when a friend saw her live in concert, in Melbourne,Victoria,Australia.

Petula Clark became an international recording star early in the 1960s, and throughout the years has recorded hits in her native language of English and additionally in German, French, Italian and Spanish.

I don't know where she is today, but my guess is that she's not in a McDonalds, drinking a rootbeer (a cruel hoax!) and also not listening to her new portable Insignia HD FM unit as well.
Seriously, she lives in France, last I heard several years ago and according to the link I'm going to post below (if I don't forget!) she got her start on the BBC at age 10 in October 1942.
I didn't read this whole article linked below (reminding myself to include the link), but from what I read, she is still active in entertaining and has yet to retire; in 2005 (she would have been 73); she looked remarkably well for her age and looked very vibrant and lively from the photographs I saw of her in Melbourne.
She is one class act.
