As most people know I worked at Shaw's Supermarket from October 01 until May 06. As you already know the Shaw's location in Southington, CT (where I worked from 9/04 until 5/06) closed down in October 06. Now the company has announced it will close the Bristol, CT location (which is where I worked from October 01 until September 04) on July 25. My past is dying.

MarcB  – Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders feels for you, but she can’t quite reach you.  Her story is sadder than yours.

Speaking of the dying past:

MY CITY WAS GONE

I WENT BACK TO OHIO
BUT MY CITY WAS GONE
THERE WAS NO TRAIN STATION
THERE WAS NO DOWNTOWN
SOUTH HOWARD HAD DISAPPEARED
ALL MY FAVORITE PLACES
MY CITY HAD BEEN PULLED DOWN
REDUCED TO PARKING SPACES
A, O, WAY TO GO OHIO

WELL I WENT BACK TO OHIO
BUT MY FAMILY WAS GONE
I STOOD ON THE BACK PORCH
THERE WAS NOBODY HOME
I WAS STUNNED AND AMAZED
MY CHILDHOOD MEMORIES
SLOWLY SWIRLED PAST
LIKE THE WIND THROUGH THE TREES
A, O, OH WAY TO GO OHIO

I WENT BACK TO OHIO
BUT MY PRETTY COUNTRYSIDE
HAD BEEN PAVED DOWN THE MIDDLE
BY A GOVERNMENT THAT HAD NO PRIDE
THE FARMS OF OHIO
HAD BEEN REPLACED BY SHOPPING MALLS
AND MUZAK FILLED THE AIR
FROM SENECA TO CUYAHOGA FALLS
SAID, A, O, OH WAY TO GO OHIO

The price chopper I used to work at way back in 1991 is long gone because they chose not to compete with other grocery stores in the area.

Things change. Times change. C'est la vie.

I remember them well.

The Sizzler was a family steak house, not top quality but it fit within a young family budget.

Sambos, I think, was an early (70s) breakfast/lunch eatery which existed before the Village Inn or Denny’s.  It was a great place for breakfast after a midnight call out when I was still a 24/7 on/call emergency tech.  Somehow my memory tells me the tradename Sambos died due to Political Correctness (Sambo = pejorative ?), and the chain went away due to bankruptcy.  Too bad, the chain dated back to the late 50s.

Very funny WMC LOL, I was the # 1 Meatcutter for our district at Sizzler. I left the company well before they went down.
