(definately) Paul McCartney
Too bad Ringo wouldn't get even as much hype(I don't think) as George got which isn't nearly as much as Paul would get or Lennon got.
Britney Spears(well, maybe not quite as much but still alot).
Rick Springfield(?)
George Harrison didn't get as much press as Lennon got because Harrison's death was expected.  It had been in the news for months in 2001 that Harrison was gravely ill.  Lennon was shot, so his death came as much more of a surprise.

If any current musical superstar is going to get mad coverage like Jacko has, it would have to be Britney Spears or a Jonas Brother or some young person who is not on a death pool list ANYWHERE. His reign was pretty much the last of the Superstar Era where a superstar could cross genres and get mass radio airplay.
Personally, I doubt that the future death of any of today’s “superstars” will receive the attention garnered by MJ.

Looking back in the past, sales of albums have generally zoomed for a short period of time after the death of a star, such as in the case of Lennon, Perkins, SRV, Orbison, and of course, Elvis.  Or the historical “Day the music died”.

But none has reached the crescendo of extended media coverage and outright bizarre mania due to Jackson’s untimely death.

I think Michael Jackson is getting way to much media coverage, I got to the point I don't watch CNN, HLN, or any of them, John Lennon and Elvis never had this much coverage, Even Nancy Grace stopped here usaul coverage of Caylee that has been burnt to a crisp.
Is It me or is the News media spending to much time on Michael Jackson.

Elvis Presley's death was "expected" as well, of course that depends on how one looks at it.  I don't remember if it was Criswell or Jeanne Dixon but one of those psychics in early 1977 actually had point blank predicted the death of Elvis by the Fall of 1977. Not beating around the bush like "Elvis may die " but rather that "Elvis WILL DIE" and considering this was a time when Elvis Presley was more/less a has-been, sure he did the concerts but most radio stations in 1977 didn't touch Elvis, heck most people for that matter prior to August 1977 simply didn't think that much of Elvis. Sure people knew who he was but for the most part Elvis was "from a different era"

Of course the more respected news people like Walter Cronkite, David Brinkley and the others didn't report that predicition from Dixon and/or Criswell but the taboilds like the National Enquier sure did. But none-the-less, once Elvis Presley did die on the August day on 1977....just about everyone was still in shock and I would imagine that included Jeanne Dixon and Criswell too.

Had the internet, the TV news channels and all of those news/talk radio stations if they were around in 1977, chances are they would have done the round-the-clock death of Elvis thing. It would had been the same thing with Lennon as well. Now in his case CNN was already on the air by the time Lennon was shot in December 1980 and I would imagine they covered Lennon's murder around the clock at the time but back in 1980 few people had or even had heard about this channel called CNN.
