Anyone remember the lovely KJUN along the freeway in Fife? When I started there it was the ‘Country Gold Network’. Then call letters went from KJUN to KKBY (The Cowboy). I was there for the flip of the switch doing afternoons.

The studio was upstairs in an old house, and in the summer it was roughly 125 degrees up there. When you were close to the end of the song, and ready to open the mic, you would have to lean over and turn off the AC first.

At anytime the power could be cut off for non-payment. Or the phones. I remember doing a remote from Jet Chevrolet one Saturday and the station was off the air for not paying the power bill.  ‘How come the station won’t come in’ the guys from Jet kept asking me.

Barbra Joy and Eddie Jamyes. Cowboy Bill. Ray Brown. Married in the morning and even Ichabod for awhile. Ick was doing mornings, and I was doing afternoons.

Ah…the good times!

The Country Gold Network had:

KJUN/KKBY 1450/104.9
KWYZ 1230 Everett (Did ANYONE down there ever come up and monitor what 1230 SOUNDED LIKE. It was so overmodulated, it was UNLISTENABLE....)
KBRO 1490 Bremerton
KENU 1330 Enumclaw
KBLV 1540 Bellevue
Was 1280 Olympia part of that too?
