Its going to be an uphill battle for I94, dont get me wrong.  Yes, Cumulus has their hands FULL!  However, with the right people in place and if they program a REAL hit music station, there could be some great potential here.

And WNOU is programmed from Indianapolis?

I'm sure Radio One lets all their programmers take charge in each city unlike Cumulost?

Radio One's issue here is the skew it took when it left Emmis. They had a white skew and now it skews urban.

Hows that cash flow Albert? Too bad stock is at 22 cents.

Uh, WNOU doesn't only push "new and current hits". I never said that. I said they were more aggresive.

Let's take a look at the 3pm Thursday hour, since they're currently doing an old school weekend.

Jeremih - Birthday Sex (phones are likely huge for this, and I see they have it in power rotation)
Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl (recurrent)
Kings Of Leon - Use Somebody (hot new band, lots of buzz)
Jesse McCartney - How Do You Sleep? (power recurrent)
STOPSET
Katy Perry - Waking Up In Vegas (I admit, thats far too close to the other Katy record for my personal taste. Looks to be a B record for them)
R. Kelly - Ignition (gold to spice it up)
Shinedown - Second Chance (power)
T.I./Rihanna - Live Your Life (power recurrent)
Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling (hot new summer record, on its way to the top of the chart, looks like an "A" for them, as it is on many major-market Top 40's)
Pitbull - I Know You Want Me (another hot summer record)
STOPSET
T.I./Justin - Dead And Gone (power recurrent)
Theory Of A Deadman - Bad Girlfriend (also looks like an "A" for them)
Flo Rida/T-Pain - Low (recurrent)

What's wrong with that hour? 7 currents, 5 recurrents, 1 gold.
Looks fine to me!
4 powers, 2 sub-powers, 1 new. And then the 5 recurrents and 1 gold. So aside from the fact that they play their powers a little bit more often, they are right on board with your philosophy!

Don't try to call me out. You don't know who I am or what I drink. It's spelled JEFFRIES by the way. Q100 has very strong numbers outside of the Bert Show. WZYP keeps away competetion by being well programmed. Youngstown has 2 CHR's. Both cover Youngstown/Warren with city grade signals. Who wins every time? The one you say Jan rotates and spins. I'm pointing out successes of someone you claim doesn't know CHR. You say I toot the horn. I say you don't give credit where it is due.

kentucky, I agree, there WOULD be potential if they mounted a real Top 40. But they don't and won't. They only play Rhythmic tracks after 6pm. This is 2009, not 1995. People even into their 30's don't mind hearing Flo Rida or T.I.
Look at 25-54 numbers for stations like Z100, KIIS, WNCI, WRVW, KHKS, WFLZ, etc.

Ever been to Youngstown? You could hear WHOT 50 feet below ground. WAKZ isn't as strong as the Radio-Locator map would lead you to belive. Youngstown has many hills, plus 4 mega-power FMs on the southern edge of the city limits, which screw with everything that isn't those 4. WAKZ's signal does not compare to WHOT's, it has its flaws.
And there's the fact that WAKZ have no local airstaff, but that's another discussion. WHOT wins on signal, and heritage (they are stronger with 25-44).

If you put WAKZ on an equal signal, I bet things would be much closer. But it's the red-headed stepchild of Clear Channel cluster there.

the only way Cloudy has a chance at making this work is if they get off the heavy Recurrent/Gold wagon and play more Currents. which i dont see happening listening to them thus far.

Huntsville?  Youngstown?  See, that's the problem...they have a cookie-cutter approach (and approach is actually a stretch, that assumes they actually HAVE a plan).  They have a small market mentality that they just can't seem to broaden.  "Well, if it's good enough in Huntsville, by golly, it's good enough for ALL our markets".  Sadly, I've witnessed first hand the limits of their woefull inside-the-box mentality and rationale.

Dateline Indianapolis 2007 - John Dickey declares the Internet "not the future" and "going away".  This is a fact.  I watched in horror as the words fell out of his mouth and hung in the air.

Listen, I wish i94 the same success as I would any other new launch.  It's just that when it fails, I might take some small comfort in it...just because it's the Dickey's.

Imaging is much better than when WNOU signed onto 100.9.

Website is marginally better than WBOW-FM relaunch (at least they got rid of the old logo pretty quickly)

Running songs in a row seems like an overused promotion to me, but that's probably because I read these boards.

But really, Cumulus needs to put a format on this stick and let it sit there for 3-5 years before blowing it up.  Building a successful station isn't as simple as flipping a switch.

but the problem is they picked a format they that already has a young ended rhythmic based CHR in Radio Now and a Soccer Mom Based Adult CHR in Z99.5 and they don't even try to go but the way Cloudy does all there CHR's Recurrent Heavy ladened. In there Artists montage they air they have a Clip of Flo Rida in it but have they even Played a Flo RIda hit on 93.9 yet. i didnt in the 2 hours i listened to on friday been busy most of the weekend to check it out since. I really dont think I94 is gonna budge anything out of the Radio Now or Z99.5 listeners over there unless they have a change in how its programmed before they launch with the Jocks after the 940 song marathon

Im not saying WNOU is terrible, but since Radio1 got their hands on it, its pretty much a Rhytmic CHR with a few Rock currents in the mix.

When WNOU was an Emmis property, they actually did it right.  Radio One has screwed up so many CHR stations its scary.  Look at WDJX and WGTZ in nearby markets.  Wow, R1 really is afraid of those musical genres arent they!

What Cumulus has going for them it fits right between WNOU and WZPL.  However whats going to happen is help them drive off a few numbers from WNOU, maybe a share at most and push WJJK into the top 5 because R1 WILL REACT and mess with WHHH a little bit.

Albert hasn't been known as the smartest guy in the room when it comes to radio.  He lost his ass in Los Angeles and overpaid by millions in Dallas.  He almost got a deal in Chicago but let it fall thru to the bottom floor back in 2003.  R1 is a good company, but its just sad to see all they have ruined in the past.

My guess is you will see WNOU try to attack I94 on the younger end, thats what R1 normall will do.  But it will end up canabalizing WHHH because they wont be careful enough.
