Nu Roo is right...CC should do Classic Hits on 93.3.  The format not only does well in NYC but also does well in Cincinnati on WGRR.  I think it would do well in Columbus...on a big stick.  104.3 doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell of ever doing any good ratings with that awful signal of theirs.

Well most people do.  Not everyone has those fancy bipolar antennae in their 4th-floor apartments, you know.

But actually this post is just another excuse to list the latest slew of stellar ratings for a format that local operators are too dumb to try on a big stick here (especially CC with its wasted, why-the-hell-does-Columbus-need-another-big-signal-AC-instead travesty, WLZT):

Seattle (first ever PPM):  CC's Classic Hits KJR-FM #1 Cume
Phoenix (first ever PPM):  Classic Hits KOOL #3
San Diego (first ever PPM): Classic Hits XPRS #3, just barely behind a 2-way tie for #1
Detroit (PPM):  Classic Hits WOMC #1

CC needs money bad.  Either the upper brass are ignoring Columbus, or local management is doing a real snow job.  It's insane for CC *not* to be trying Classic Hits on 93.3 instead of leaving it to pipsqueak 104.3 that will be doing incredibly if it can eek out a 1.

   Classic Non-Hits on "Secrets Classic" tonight at 8:00 on WCRS (featured artists the Beatles and Buzzcocks), then more on brand new "Yesterday's Top Secrets" episodes this Thursday and Friday, same time (featured artists the Dave Clark Five and the Dead Boys), then next week the Thursday and Friday "Secrets" spotlight will shine on the Everly Brothers and the Embarrassment.

   I'm not getting into the ratings controversy that's raging elsewhere on this board, but it seems pretty clear to me that if WCRS isn't already ahead of all of the other stations in this town, then it soon will be. People are tired of the same old same old, including, from what I've read, the vast majority of radio-info.com Columbus posters! So why is it such a shock if we are starting a gain a foothold in the ratings? Because someone doesn't like the signal?? Then stream!!! Millions around the world already are, maybe. (Accent on the maybe )

This why I tune to Nelsonville OH WAIS to listen to Ed Schultz when I'm not working.

The only time I tune to WLZT is their HD2 station during the Bengals season or listening to Coast to Coast on Fridays and Saturdays.

With the exception of WAIS, WOSU, and WCBS (nights only) AM radio is dead. The Fan is on the FM.

If CC wants to be viable sell of the underperformance stations. For example WYTS AM.

I agree on the last point Will ... 1230 basically is a useless frequency. It's a shame considering its heritage in the market.

Notice how WLVQ and the Brew have moved closer toward each other, so that their playlists are about 75% the same, maybe more (not to mention that 99.7 pounds some of the same songs)?  Pretty soon they'll be as similar as the two mainstream AC's (SNY and LZT).

Well, that quote is still "kind of" true, but not entirely.  The Brew seems to have reverted back to its "what do we want to be today?" mode.  Maybe 60-70% of the time it's still virtually straight-ahead Classic Rock, but other days the CR is mixed in with plenty of spice (from various directions) that LVQ wouldn't go near.  Wish the latter mode would stick around at some point.  That's where it is today, but tomorrow it will probably be back to virtually straight-ahead Classic Rock.  Wonder what's behind the swings?

Not only do I have trouble picking up 104.3 in my cars in the NW metro, but it has been in mono for well over a month.  A weak mono FM Oldies station?  Saga might as well have kept WVKO and put the Oldies format on it.

No doubt they turned off the stereo signal and went to the mono mode out of desperation. By going to mono, they can increase the signal range of 104.3, which is about the weakest signal rimshot in the Columbus area.

The signal seems to be worse over the past several months.  I noticed it around July or so.  There are many places where it used to be better, but now it's very weak.  I wondered if maybe they took a lightning strike, which could also explain being in mono, but that shouldn't continue for months unless they just don't care.
