HD Radio operators say the current power levels are insufficient to give many potential set-buyers a good signal, even in the retail store.

The retail store environment has never been conducive to radio reception anyway.  If you hike power enough to get HD in there, you will have so much power floating around outside the store you could probably light up bulbs the way Nicola Tesla envisioned.

I could not get HD reception on FM in a Radio Shack just a few blocks from the Empire State Building. There was NO antenna attached. Even the analog reception was staticy. The store was on street level.
Meanwhile, the Sirius XM radio was blasting music.
So far, stations that spew out IBUZ have yet to see a return on investment. Even though HD2s are now allowed to play commercials, they don't. I wonder how long they'll keep those power-hungry HD exciters.
