Yes, and yet we see the same stale radio formats here in Lubbock that are ubiquitous in every other market- some doing ok, and others not.
Well...there's a reason they're the "same old radio formats"....because those are formats
that work. Any venture out of the norm (Jack, Classic Country, Alt, Americana...) never get more than "x" share because they appeal to a very narrow demo over time. They are what they are and never grow (consequently never fall off much either...which is I guess a strategy in itself). Trying to reinvent the wheel is a bad idea when you can take the existing wheel and smooth it out so it runs better. Don't see Toyota coming out with a 7 wheel car...just making better 4 wheel ones than everyone else.
I think it was the great Lew Dee's arm sweat who said "There are no new ideas left in radio."
