KOFY (or DKOFY) is back on the air, playing black gospel music.

The audio was very overmodulated but in the past 30 minutes they have backed the volume off and it sounds better now.

I finally heard a ID at 5:49.

"KOFY Gilmer  - The Home of the Blues" and a flip to Blues music.

Interesting, I hope Jerry Russell is NOT behind this, but probably is. Now lets see if he can get KZEY 690 back on the air.

All I want to know is, #1 is the station suddenly LEGAL again; #2 is there a chance KOFY can breathe new life with a new owner in hopes that Russell is NOT running the show and #3, besides the losers that Russell hired in the past (and the pros that literally got ran off by him, namely me) who is voicing the ID?

On http://www.recnet.com/cdbs/fmq.php?facid=34558&jaws=0 there is a "Extension of STA" listed that was accepted by the FCC on 7-17-09.

The choice of Blues and Gospel is a good one for AM radio, but can they sell it?

And I have no idea who is doing the ID. We'll just have to keep listening and figure out whats going on.

This is really a shocker.  And as for 690 returning I guess anything's possible, but I really didn't think Russell had the bucks to get either station back on the air.

Unless I'm missing something there's no record of any approval of the extension of the STA.  But here's something interesting from last October:  http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/getimportletter_exh.cgi?import_letter_id=10615   I have no idea when the STA was due to expire, but just because you file for an extension doesn't mean you can return to the air...legally.

This is very strange.  Are they operating at a full 10,000 watts?!

Yep. But it's Jerry Russell. Are you surprised?

If they were, that would be surprising.

Who knows, but 1060's blasting again. I drove around Kilgore around 7:15 pm and the signal is strong. I hope it has a new owner.

I did find KOFY's Radio Locator page again, it had been MIA for a long time. Interesting that it lists the tower site nearby Gilmer now instead of the FM 2767 location near Kilgore. It's not the original site where the station began as KHYM but close. Strange.

It's up around 7 kW. It's still out on FM 2767. I believe it's on an LMA from Jerry, but I'm not completely sure.
