102.5 WHIZ Move in...

He obviously doesn't want to take any heat from the locals for selling them out and taking their station away from them, which he surely did for however much he ends up getting for it.

Understood, but isn't that kind of a moot point right now?  The WHIZ configuration is now exactly as it had been for decades, except that 92.7/South Zanesville is the FM, with the same format 102.5 had before all this happened.

The northern areas of the former 102.5 coverage area will not be served as well (or at all farther out) by the 92.7 signal since the 92.7 xmtr site is so much farther south.  Maybe it's no big deal to them.  I will give him credit for at least getting a replacement signal, even if it is a downgrade, because a number of other FM moves in Ohio have left counties with either no radio station, or only small AM stations, which the FCC should never have allowed to happen.

Why don't they say that they sold out the BETTER 102.5 frequency to the Columbus market, at a profit. Then, the listeners in Zaniesville would understand why they can't hear 102.5 anymore because it's the America way to make money. They stand to make Millions by moving the signal into the Columbus radio market at the expense of the Zainesville radio market listeners.
For some reason(s), they don't want the people of Zaineville to know the real reason they moved 102.5 to Columbus and that was to sell 102.5 at a huge profit. They don't want to be know as the radio owners that sold out their best radio signal to the Columbus radio market. Maybe they think their Zainesville reputation would be at stake if they make that fact know to the general public in Zainesville.
Dose anyone agree with me?

One thing I definitely agree with you on is that the owners are ridiculously trying to mislead the people of Zanesville into thinking 102.5 still serves much of their area.  Being misleading (no, make that lying) doesn't speak well for those guys.

All this reminds me of the old WNCI (formerly known as) Morning Zoo classic parody "Livin In Zanesville," to the tune of "Livin on a Prayer".  It was a scream, and probably lost WNCI whatever listeners they had in the area.

Yes, I agree completely!  They sold out for the almighty dollar, pure and simple.  To try to claim anything else would be an obvious lie.  The ONLY benefit in that move was financial, and only the owners will reap the benefit.  While it can be claimed that they did indeed get a replacement for it so no service was lost, the fact remains that the replacement is still a downgrade and it was all about money...nothing else.

FWIW, they're still about the smallest market with their own full-power TV station.  But with cable that's not as big a deal as it used to be.

BTW, does anyone who has thread posts emailed to them find that they're screwed up lately?  E.g, I get copies of my own posts, but attributed to someone else....and other weird stuff.  First the visual emoticons go away, now this.

Everyone seems to forget that Zanesville has another local FM station, 107.3 WYBZ.  And now that SE Ohio Broadcasting has filed for a second FM Licensed to McConnolsville, but transmitting from the WHIZ tower at 103.7. ( Id look for a change of COL on the 92.7 signal to McConnolsville, and the new signal to become South Zanesville, but thats just a guess to keep the allocations)

102.5 moving to Columbus makes way for the move of WCMJ 96.7 to 102.7 increasing their power from 2.3kw to 4.5kw, that move makes way for 96.7 WKOV In Jackson Ohio to Move to Frazeysburg with 11.5kw putting a city grade signal over all of Zanesville and even Newark. Alot of changes but it looks to me like Zanesville will get a gain of 1 City grade signal over what they had.

They can be annoying, but it's actually better than seeing words like Smiley, Wink and Cheesy showing up in posts instead.   It's as if people are talking about the Seven Dwarfs instead of radio.
