I did ok, not "really well" as you mentioned, but thanks though... but that still doesn't mean anything. The ratings system is ARCHAIC, MASSIVELY FLAWED and yes... TRULY LAUGHABLE and I KNOW you know that. Don't act like you don't.

Your telling me that 101 should have gone up this past book when they placed Bob & Weave at night? Come on!

Your telling me that KFYO should have taken a drop this spring... with all the insanity taking place in politics? Tea Parties, Health care etc... Talk radio is hotter than ever, good or bad, and KFYO took a drop?

The book NEVER makes any real sense and there really is no way to predict what it's going to do. That's all I am saying. Instead of calling it "THE BOOK" the industry should be calling it "THE MAGIC 8 BALL".
on rock 101,you may not understand it, me either, but that doesn't make Arbitron crazy, maybe just US, is it possible that people ACTUALLY listened to B&T at night? and it helped them..see what they do next time before you write it off as crazy. KFYO.. its summer, maybe people turned off the politics, their listeners were not tuned in this time..is it logical that Arbitron will show a spike in the fall book for stations that air Christmas music? just because you or me or anyone doesn't like the outcome of a ratings book doesn't mean Arbitron is wrong, ever think YOU are wrong? something to consider.. WHY are the same stations at the bottom of the list book after book? do you really think KKAM is the #1 station in town? and somehow arbitron gets it wrong every time? if you are steve dale you probably think so, but i think you and Steve for that matter are smarter than that. if you are in radio you have to play the game and Arbitron IS the game, the only way we keep score. gap along with wilks and all the rest pay several thousands to buy these results, and IF your boss is investing THAT much money in these things you better respect them. its like ignoring your Doctors advice, do it long enough and you will be gone. like it or not.

C, your killing me. The only reason radio uses CRAPITRON is because its the only game in town AND the national advertisers demand to see the numbers. Local advertisers dont give a damn about numbers. They go with their favorite station or the station the sales shark talks them into. If the numbers are correct, then why is that companies like CBS etc... have told CRAPITRON to kiss their corporate ass more than once and went a year or more without CRAPITRONS glorious numbers? Its because everyone knows the numbers are a joke. But they are the only game in town. Until the NIELSON peeps, did I spell that right, started to make their way into radio. If you live by the numbers... you will die by the numbers. If some usually high ranking station has a bad book, they will complain to CRAPITRON, then CRAPITRON will respond with some excuse about the books not coming back from some specific sector, then usually, all most like magic, that station that complained about getting screwed will bounce up a point or two. It happens ALL THE TIME. As for a station like KKAM etc... they are always low because they are a crap station and if you have a system that is flawed from the get go, then its going to make them look even crappier. CRAPITRON should just get a plane every few months, fly over the markets and dump the diaries out on to the city, because thats the same sort of system they got going on already. Damn C man, why must you provoke me? Cant a brother just post his crazy ass opinions in peace? Do you have something against asian guys? Whats the deal?

on Arbitron, Crow, you probably don't like POLLS either... but guess what? McCain never lead in ANY polls and HE DIDN'T WIN! neither did Kerry, or Bob Dole.  i hope you get back in the saddle again, you did a fine job over there, reflected by ratings, don't sell yourself short, by dissing Arbitron you dismiss yourself.

Once again C, I appreciate the kind words... however, as for me getting back in the saddle... that won't happen here. Hours after I was laid off... I pretty much shot my horse then chopped it up with a very rusty chainsaw. However, even getting a gig in other markets wasn't easy. You have the current state of the radio industry with no signs of getting better, you have the current state of the economy and then you have my show. I was not cookie cutter. I did what I wanted or at least I made it sound that way and I didn't take myself too seriously either. Doing radio isn't curing cancer. I just had fun with it and played the music people wanted to hear. I wanted to put on a show... not just show up and do a shift like so many others. I just wanted to have a good time during my show. However, when you send an aircheck like that to some other market... I think it ultimately hurts me because I don't fit into a mold, so to speak. I think it's hard for many PD's to hear true entertainment and I do not say that to be cocky at all. I will read your liners etc... but I'm going to do it my way. The way I think makes the most sense. I'm going to talk about whatever I feel the listeners will chime in on etc... However, this is just me... but it worked for me. I never wanted to be a rock star while at FMX... I left that up to Eathen, Wes etc... I just wanted to put on the best show possible. With ALL of that being said... It's no secret that I burned the GAP bridge in record time. That wasn't my intention. It was simply out of anger at getting so screwed by GAP. However, I know I am not the only person to get the shaft by them or by some other company. If I could do it again... would I handle it differently? The jury is still out on that one.... I was really pissed off and I strongly felt that things needed to be said about how that company and a certain GM, at the time, was ruining a really good cluster etc... Yet, that was then... this is now. I still look for a radio gig every once in awhile and I know I would have to start at the bottom again, which doesn't bother me at all. But, it just seems that in a way, the negatives of radio out weigh the positives at this point.

However, these are JUST the opinions and rantings of an insane man....

Crow, you have no doubt "earned" the right to feel like you do about things, but always remember Radio is about attracting a mass audience, and not about doing what YOU want to do, but IF you can attract a large audience AND please yourself, you've WON.

I hear ya... but that was then and this is now. Radio was fun but when the safest person in an industry is a minimum wage part-timer, who I once was, then there is really no reason to get back into that industry.
