Top 40 WPTR question.

Hey Guys:

           Well I have been reading all of the history posts and I am really enjoying them. I was wondering if you can help me out with this question. I have seen on some posts here and some other stories on the internet about when WPTR went from Top 40 to AC. I have read 1976, 1977, 1979, and 1980.

Can anybody help me clear this up?

It is my understanding that WPTR officially flipped to its short lived A/C format in early 1980. The format lines between Top 40 and A/C became kind of blurry though in the late 1970s. However, it flipped to Country in late 1980, which lasted until 1988.

When I left WPTR in February 1980 it was still Top 40 but was beginning to morph into AC.  From what I was told the transition to full AC came in March.
