It definitely sounds like KAAY, since it's 50K

This has to be KAAY. There isn't another AM in or near Little Rock with 50kW.

Weeeell, Children.....What's the going price? What work is needed on the grounding system to get it out like it should at night?...What will be the format for such a monster in this top 90 market? ?

Is *that* the problem? The grounding system? Or lack thereof, if it has rotted away.
I'm in Conway. At my location, 920 is almost as strong as 1090 during the day. I realize 920's transmitter is closer and they are slightly lower in frequency. Still, it's 50kW on 1090 vs 5kW on 920. KAAY should be *much* stronger here. At night, KAAY suffers splatter interference from KRLD. They should be BOOMING in here at night. That NNW lobe is pointed right at me!
I grew up in Minnesota during the 1970s, so I know what KAAY's signal used to be. They were as strong as the locals from just after sunset until just before sunrise. MANY nights, I fell asleep to Clyde Clifford on a $10 clock radio. When I was up there last summer/fall, I could barely hear KAAY. Yes, there's a noise floor now with everyone having flea power nighttime authorization. But KAAY's raw signal strength was nowhere near what it used to be.
BTW, the "station for sale" might also be 880. I heard them on a few days ago, testing with 1970s tunes and announcements that a new 50,000 watt talk station was coming soon to Little Rock.

KLRG 880 does have a brand new Nautel transmitter. The killer for them is the split site low power night signal.

On-air and engineering from 1976 to 1997 in markets ranging from #86 to #2. Fortunate to have witnessed the last great days of AM Top 40, and the last great days of independently programmed, creative personality radio...

I believe KAAY's array sits on substantially more than 7 acres. A quick and dirty calculation using Google Earth looks like the array itself takes up about 15. That's not counting the frontage and transmitter building. I'm betting it's 880.

The station for sale is... KLRG 880 AM - Sheridan. NOT... KAAY.

So I guess the brokered time guy out of Florida didn't want to keep it after all -- or someone crazy enough to play "Flip This Station!" in this economy....
