what about portability, do they make Satellite receivers that you can carry around and listen or can the internet be made portable outside of going on line with some Blackberry phone to listen.  At least you can receive HD on the go
I might be misreading you, but satellite radio has had portable receivers for over 6 years. HD has, what, the Best Buy unit, for the past 6 months? Portable internet is still cell or satellite based, and rather expensive, but that will likely change in the coming years (look at broadband internet's advance - it's now ubiquitous). Why? Because people want it. HD radio? Nah.

HD radio isn't a question mark at this point. It's a footnote in history.

One question:  Did the salesman try to talk you out of an HD radio in that car because he couldn't offer it, or because that sales rep simply didn't understand it or had some other objection?
My guess is he's tired of complaints from constantly switching between analog and digital to FM sounding good until the digital kicks in then it sounds like a bad mp3 (on stations running  two or three HD streams, especially if they're running three).

Salesmen are probably tired of the high expectation of HD turning into the streaming complaints from IBOC. And it doesn't help being on the east coast where first-adjacent channels are quite common. :-)

I checked out the HD lists for the country, it states WJBR will be in HD very soon and have an HD-2 and 3 before the holidays.  It had to happen, Beasley owns them and all their signals are HD.  What I meant was I know Satellite had portables for years but they are very expensive and the ones I witnessed did not receive well indoors and in buildings with heavy structure.  I just heard my buddies blackberry storm we were in the mall and the internet is 30.00 per month extra but worth it, I went to radio locator and streamed stations on the net.....also had music channels etc., so I guess for 30.00 per month its the way to go....and static free in HD stereo...

Another reason some stations might decide against adding HD is that it reduces the power of their analog signals, if I understand it correctly.

That is what I heard, but in the case of WSTW and WRFF their main signal seems stronger, who knows...on the other note, how does 104.3 compare to 104.5, is the playlist similar, 104.5 has much better ratings than 104.3 with more competition in the market.  I also heard 97.9 has HD-2 and 3 which are Rock oriented, how is their side bands for rock.  Never seen a rocker with 3 HD's all rock...Is DSD's HD-2 Classic Country is it a good mix, sorry for all the questions but don't get down that way too much anymore...
