Today's Newsday is reporting that Long Island University received a total of four bids for WLIU (Southampton) and WCWP (Brookville, Nassau County).

Three bids came from religious broadcasters, while the fourth came from a group of incumbent staff members and others who have yet to incorporate in New York State.

According to an article in the Sag Harbor Express, the WLIU manager said his group would bid twice the value of the facility (said to be $1 Million, so their bid might be $2 million), and that they estimate cost of both studio and transmitter relocations to be another $1 Million. That suggests they raised at least 3 million, but they'll need another $2.4 Million to cover expenses at the current burn rate.

If one reads between the lines, that suggests WNYC/WQXR did not bid, and probably WSHU (Bridgeport) didn't either unless they did so as a religious group.

East Hampton's WEER (90.7) is apparently not involved either. Their CP has another two years to go.

Oh great, just what we need. More religious stations.

maybe this would be a good time for Radio-X to get back on the air.  That would be something different.
