What AMs are still great?

WWL 870 is still a great station. Their local news is the best you'll hear anywhere.  Some of the talk shows lapse into "Yat Chat" but they take on local issues, something talk radio just doesn't do anymore.  Tom Fitzmorris' weekend food show is a blast, and the Saints coverage is a big draw.  And of course you can pick up the big 870 just about anywhere.

I'd have to say that there are two great AM stations in Wilmington.  Each one is a News/Talk station with different approaches.

1150 WDEL Wilmington, Delaware is still a great AM station.  It used to be a full service MOR music station (NBC radio affiliate), but as times changed so did they.  Today, WDEL does live and local talk during the dayparts after AM drive (Al Messitti from 9am-12noon (liberal), Rick Jensen from 1pm-4pm (conservative).  During AM drive, noon hour, and PM drive, they offer news blocks of both local and national news (from CBS), their news blocks also include interviews with people from all over the world, plus traffic, weather, stocks, and commentary.  They also carry the Phillies, Eagles, and Wesley College football, plus offer local high school football and basket ball.  When not carrying live sports at night, WDEL offers Laura Ingraham and Sports talk.

1450 WILM Wilmington, Delaware, is also still a great AM station.  They also air AM drive, mid day, and PM drive newsblocks.  Similar to what WDEL airs, except WILM is a Fox Radio affilitate. WILM's news blocks offer plenty of local/national news, sports, weather/traffic, stocks, commentaries, etc.  Not as many interviews though.  The different approach is that WILM airs a live and local talker John Watson 9am-11:30am (liberal), then after the mid day news block, WILM airs Rush/Hannity then PM drive newsblock.  The evenings are syndicated (conservative) talk until midnight when Jim Bohannan (liberal) airs over night. 

Both stations offer solid local news coverage which is an important thing in this market as Wilmington has one newspaper (The News Journal) and no local commerical TV stations, and only a PBS station (WHYY) that doesn't do local news) making both WDEL and WILM major sources for local Wilmington and Delaware news.  Wilmington is an unusual market where radio is still a major source for getting local news, thus we have two news/talk AM stations battling it out as cross town rivals. There is essentially no local TV presence other than the rare story from Wilmington that is sensational enough to be covered by Philadelphia's 4 TV stations that do broadcast local (Philly) news.

KMJ 580 Fresno deserves a vote

I have to second that.  Top of the hour local news most of the day.  Rush, Hannity, Levine, and Coast to Coast, other than that all local.  Also KMJ-FM not a simulcast (except part of Levine) has national news at the top of the hour so it is very easy to take your pick.

Also KNBR San Francisco has to be the best sport station west of the rockies.
