Not every station on the Ohio State radio network remembers to shut off its stream during games.  Wink

An FM station in Austin,Texas also moved to the FM band to take advantage of the popularity of the Texas Long Horns. The new FM
Sports station in Austin is calling its self "The Horns" .
Are they imitating Columbus's 97.1 The Fan? Also, why didn't 97.1 rename itself 97.1 The BUCKS to take advantage of The Bucks popularity here in Columbus?  Any guesses how they(97.1) will do in the forthcoming Winter book? The Bucks aren't doing as well as expected this year, at least in football.

Here is the article in the Austin, Texas newspaper:

Every station I love eventually changes formats.

Calling themselves 97.1 The BUCKS would narrow the perceived scope of their sports coverage, and may even be a registered trademark.

It is a trademark of The Ohio State University. Plus The Bucks sounds cheesy. Maybe The Buck would work better. The tag line could be "The Buck Stops Here"!  Roll Eyes

97.1 The Fan will do well financially...as well as their ratings allow them to.  The real question is now that 1460 has bled out because of 97.1 what can be done with that frequency?

1460 will probably carry ESPN Radio stuff and the Jackets. They won't change anything for a while.

And somehow from here in Houston I never find any of those! Smiley

It also wouldn't leave much to talk about from April to August.

What if a station called itself "The Buck Guys?"  Grin

Does anyone else have trouble with that one-day pass for OSU games on Saturdays? I got it for the Penn State game and the stupid thing would never play. It did play the archived games, but never the actual live game I wanted to hear.

Slightly off topic ... but why does The Fan only broadcast Monday Night Football some weeks and no Thursday night NFL games from Westwood One? I can't figure out the rhyme or reason. Isn't part of having both an AM and FM feed for The Fan an ability to carry all possible games?
