Thanks for interest in this subject.  I'm the General Manager of WBGO.

The antenna and transmitter relocation will take place once we have successfully raised the dollars needed to complete the move.  The first phase of the project was FCC approval via Construction permit.  This is now done.  We have also come to terms with the new location--4 Times Square at 42nd St. and Broadway.  We estimate the station's broadcast coverage will be improved or made available to one million people more people across the greater metro area.

Again, our primary need at this moment is for jazz fans, and others, to help us raise the funding needed to complete the project.  As a non-commercial station, we depend upon listener contributions/donations for every aspect of station operations.

I am hopeful that the fans of jazz and non-commercial radio in the NYC market will step forward in support of WBGO and jazz music.

Thanks. So the Trump Tower location is out, then?

Also, is there any way people to contribute directly towards the antenna/transmitter relocation or would that be paid with regular donations/contributions?

Yes, the Trump location is definitely out.  We are amending our original FCC application to reflect the new location at 4 Times Square.  If you have an interest in donating to the transmitter relocation project, please contact WBGO Development Director Chuck Ferrero (cferrero@wbgo.org, or 973-624-8880) to make your gift or donation.  Thanks.

WBGO does not have to protect Party 87 which is actually a LPTV station.

If the FCC's website is accurate ( Undecided) I would look forward to that move. What little they lose in New Brunswick is compensated very well by better western Long Island coverage. Which means they probably jump the Manhattan skyline better.

BTW: I missed the post, when I read it the first time around, but WBGO went fulltime Jazz format in September 1980. When 106.7 WRVR went Country as WKHK (Kick 106).

Thank you for dredging up this post.
