I see WSKQ beat WCAA by a long shot.  Hell, even PULSE beat WCAA!

Nice try. Thanks for playing. WCAA 96.3, as mentioned in another post, is a new station and not the same as WCAA 105.9 per the Arbitron rules. So, the one-week results of WCAA 96.3 were averaged with three zero share weeks to get a 3.6. The single, and only, week, results were a 3.6 for WCAA 96.3. In other words, WCAA 96.3 beat WSKQ in its first week on the air.

david can you please clarify the numbers for me WSKQ has a 3.2 compare to WCAA 0.9, also there is nothing under WXNY (new station la equis)...I was also wondering how Luis jimenez did under the new frequency.

The data released today was the Arbitron "October" 28-day period. WCAA 96.3 was listed as a "new" station so the 0.9 was an average of the 4 weeks of the survey, during which WCAA 96.3 was on for 7. Thus, in those 7 days, it got a share of 3.6 (0.9 times 4) and a cume of about 2.1 million.
thank you for your clarification.

You're making that up!  How in the hell could you calculate a 3.6 if WCAA had 0.0's for the rest of the month but and had a 0.9 for one week?  How could you add 0.0 if ZERO MEANS NOTHING?!?!  If that was the case, they would've had it under WXNY, which IS listed.  Until you show us proof as in citation needed, then I will keep it shut, until then, this is complete bs you're feeding us.

Try again. Arbitron 101.

For the total month of October, the new WCAA 96.3 had a 0.9. The montly is based on the 4 weeklies (with tiny weighting adjustments) added, then divided by four.

0 + 0 +0 +3.6 = 3.6, divided by 4 = 0.9. Three weeks of zeros (as the station did not exist until 10/8 by Arbitron standards). Three zeros, a 3.6 in week four, gives a 0.9 for the month.

Arbitron policy requires that a station on a new frequency with a new name and a new format be treated as a brand new station, so the trailing numbers of the old WCAA are available under the listing of a discontinued station.

So, for a station that did not exist until the last, exact, week of the October book (and thus got zeros in weeks 1, 2 and 3) to get a 0.9 for the book, it had to have a 3.6 in week 4.

And, for that week, it beat WSKQ.

96.3 did not change calls to WXNY until the 16th of November, which was the first day of the November book.

Well, guess what? WCAA (now WXNY) beat WSKQ in its first week on the air.

It's not outside the realm of possibility that WXNY would beat WSKQ during the first week of airing, when taken into account utilizing for the first time a full-market signal to help augment the profile of what is already a familiar product. After all, it is the first week. People would be curious about this "new" station and comparing it to their immediate competition. The thing is that first week has passed and now we begin a new month (and the rest of the year); needed time for people to get the feel of the station. There's no guarantee that 'XNY would keep getting a 3.6, even maintaining a 3, through the next month or so. Keeping that in mind, I would not be so quick to justify management decisions based on ONE WEEK of being on the air. Triumphalism has a way of backfiring. But then, this is New York. You have to sometimes bluster for PR purposes.

Familiar? New name, new format, new logo, new everything. The huge TV campaign focused on "a new radio station has come to New York." No reference to the old format or name was made, and the first week was pure mixes, not regular programming.

The next weeks may, in fact, be better.

Just to keep your mouth shut I'll give you that.  But technically, La Kalle NEVER beat WSKQ, and point blank, you said La Kalle was over on 105.9.  96.3 WCAA scored high to the curiosity of promoting a new station like stationless listener said.  But I still don't know how you could be bragging about ONE WEEK of "defeat" when WCAA got their behinds handed to them for YEARS by WSKQ.  And if WXNY was changed in "November 16" , which now you can predict the future, then WCAA wouldnt have 0.0 for the rest of the month right?  But what will matter to me is to see the final result.  Let's see how you are gonna make WXNY be at the top of WSKQ.

Just to keep your mouth shut I'll give you that.  But technically, La Kalle NEVER beat WSKQ,

La Kalle is the station that was on 105.9 and which ceased to exist on October 7th.

La X went on the air as a new station on October 8, and beat WSKQ in its first week on the air. Whether it will continue to do that remains to be seen, but the power of a good signal is certainly evident in the PPM world.

Quote
and point blank, you said La Kalle was over on 105.9.

That's correct. And it died on the 7th of last month.

Quote
96.3 WCAA scored high to the curiosity of promoting a new station like stationless listener said.

I see. Then explain how WQXR, which moved to 105.9 but was also treated as a "New" station by Arbitron went from an average of about 1.9 shares to what seems to be a 0.3 or 0.4 for the last week of the October book? How is it that one station takes a nose dive of major proportions, while WXNY debuts strong and solid?

Quote
But I still don't know how you could be bragging about ONE WEEK of "defeat"

The weekly PPM sample is essentially as valid as the month, the quarter and the year.

Quote
when WCAA got their behinds handed to them for YEARS by WSKQ.

When a near 2-share station goes to a 0.4, you might form the conclusion that WCAA did not lose due to programming (in fact, in the smalla rea it was heard well in, it was known to tie or beat WSKQ) but due to signal. In any case, La Kalle ended on the 7th.

Quote
Let's see how you are gonna make WXNY be at the top of WSKQ.

It already is. Since most Spanish language stations don't use the call letters in Spanish, what is on 96.3 is La X, not La Kalle and that is what started on 10/8.
