Johnjay & Rich get new contract
« on: October 21, 2009, 09:40:53 PM »

Clear Channel is hanging by a thread financially and they can still write a check.   I wonder how many people will lose their jobs to keep these guys employed?

Here's the annoucement:

Top-Rated Morning Duo Johnjay & Rich Sign New Multi-Year Contract Extension

October 21, 2009

Clear Channel Radio Phoenix announced today that the popular morning duo, Johnjay & Rich, have been signed to a new multi-year contract extension. The major deal puts to rest months of rumor and speculation that one of the Valley’s highest rated morning shows was about to jump ship.

“We are very pleased to continue the Valley’s love affair with Johnjay and Rich on 104.7 KISS FM.  They have become a social network unto themselves, providing listeners of all ages with entertainment and laughs daily.  This reinforces our commitment to providing the best programming for our listeners and clients in the Valley of the Sun!” explained President & Phoenix Market Manger Jeff England.

“We are so happy that Clear Channel has decided to renew our show because anyone who listens to us knows that any shot we’d have at any other vocation whatsoever would leave our families in utter peril” said co-host Rich Berra.

“I can’t believe they re-signed us! Rich and I were about to travel above the state of AZ in a Mylar weather balloon. Instead we hide in the Clear Channel Radio attic waiting on a new contract!” added co-host Johnjay Van Es.

Johnjay & Rich keep the Phoenix audience engaged with features like Second Date Update, Confession Wednesday and The Good, the Bad and the Gossip.  Additionally, top names in show business appear on-air regularly to get in on the act.

Smoke and mirrors.  In today’s radio world, a contract doesn't mean big money.  It is simply a contract.   They signed for low money but get job security.   And of course, Clear Channel gets to whore a very inexpensive show to additional markets for next to nothing, therefore saving even more money.   Radio has changed dramatically.  DO NOT confuse hosting a morning show with having above average talent.   Low price and good attitudes get the gigs.   Congrats to John Jay and Rich.  Although low paid, at least they have a job.  If the demand for quality performance ever returns to radio, they will most likely be forced to find reality.

The only problem I really have with the show is the lack of music... but then again, I guess I'm a hypocrite since KFYI is one of my fav's between 7a-10a.

Why play music when the statinon plays music the rest of the day

Their show is a one stop shop for those of us who love the gossip and like lifestyle talk radio
