Yesterday just before 5 pm I noticed something on 1400, while driving on Rt 128 in Peabody. It was a loop
of Spanish language talk (echoed) and synthesizer noises and it seemed to say something like
"we are preparing...more music...are you ready?" if my translation was right. The signal was quite
strong and I wondered if it was a pirate from Lynn or Peabody (the echo was so much that it was
tough to make out what was being said). Or is it WLLH 1400 turning on again? The signal got slightly
weaker when I got into downtown Lynnfield...

(sorry about the new username - been so long since my last post, I forgot what I was using...)

As for 1400 - it is my understanding that it is NOT a pirate and it is a legit station.  Apparently, the company that owns 1110 in Providence (and stations in MA?) is making a go of a local operation in Lawrence to compete with the Spanish radio outlets up here.  A few former personalities from Costa Eagle's Power 800 are also expected to be on board with the operation.  Not sure of an official launch date, but now it's got me curious to hear what they're doing...need to venture around Lawrence to hear the signal.

Well if they were coming from Lynn or Peabody they'd def. be a pirate--and it did seem surprisingly strong
on the stretch of 128 between Peabody and Lynnfield...otherwise, if it's from up around Lawrence I was
figuing it was WLLH (Law. transmitter) ...or would a pirate dare go onto that freq from up there? Smiley
But apparently it's WLLH, testing....?

Radio-locator says the owner of 1110 in Prov is Video Mundo Broadcasting LLC (that station is "Power 1110")

This morning I was wondering if I was actually picking up WHTB 1400 out of New Bedford but I thought,
no, this is from the Merrimack Valley or North Shore.
Today in Beverly I tuned in again and heard more of the looped message...it keeps saying something like
"estoy pregunta" or "estoy presenta" (probably the latter, we are presenting?), then "radio", etc.

I'm picking it up very well in Methuen, but it's definitely NOT the Lawrence transmitter.  There's a dead spot for most moderately-strong AM stations at a point in Methuen called 5 corners where overhead telephone, cable and phone lines interesect with a transformer near the West End Firehouse.  When WLLH's Lawrence transmitter is working, about 2 miles away, WLLH keeps coming in.  When the Lowell stick is going solo, it crashes under the tsunami of hash, and that's what happened today (Thursday).  BTW, nada on 890.

It's a pleasant surprise to see how well Video Mundo is doing down in Providence given that they're stuck on a daytimer.  Classic case of making lemonade from a lemon.

They've done more with less than other operators down there (no names will be mentioned to protect the guilty). Wink

Remember it was announced a couple wks back that Merrimack College hockey would be on WLLH 1400
starting 11/13, one indication they'd be back on air by "Nov."

As of 3:00 PM - they're playing music (no more looping promo) - but I'm with LG, definitely NOT the Lawrence transmitter.  I was out and about in Lawrence and the signal went from decent to hash depending on what block I was at in the city.  When 1400 was up and running in Lawrence - it was a decent signal running ESPN, etc.  So much so - I could hear it in my basement office in Lawrence.

As an aside - someone mentioned WHTB 1400 and stated it was in New Bedford.  As a 1400 WALE/WHTB alum, I'm proud to say WHTB is licensed to Fall River, altho no longer at 130 Rock Street.  They're now co-located with sister station WSAR in Somerset.  (Sorry - I guess I still bleed Durfee Red and Black)

Around 5 pm I was picking them up on Rt 1, nr Rt 97, in Topsfield. They ID-ed as WLLH Lawrence/Lowell
... "la MEGA" and were playing music. It was faint but was coming in

Oops re: WHTB, I stand corrected!

In all probablity, the station in question more than likely is WLLH. The Application to the FCC for an STA to Remain Silent was dismissed yesterday. No word on WAMG.

890 could go back on somehow for a couple days with some kind of programming then go back off so as to
stay alive...?
