Any word on when I have to stop listening to WCBS-FM this year? I assume they will go all Christmas/Holiday music very soon now. I remember they were throwing in the odd holiday tune by election day last year, then flipped completely within a week or so. Any ideas/updates?
Personally, I'd like to see the regular greatest hits format continue until 12/24.

They went ALL-Christmas the week of November 17 last year...now as for THIS year, WHY do you even have to STOP listening when and if the station goes ALL-Christmas for? Besides which, one of the BEST albums of Christmas or ANY time of year was "Phil Spector's Christmas Album", which, iirc, was recorded and released in November of 1963....PERSONALLY, i can hear ANY of the tracks (well, except for Phil Spector's "speech"...) ANY time of the year - NOT to mention the fact that Darlene Love, one of the most underrated vocalists of the ROCK era, gets MORE press around the holidays than at ANY other time...and speaking of Ms. Love, here's hoping that the hallowed halls of Cleveland (as in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame) FINALLY wakes up, smells the coffee, and inducts her in as part of the CLASS of 2010!!

If you look at the "Hall of Fame" link on the CBS-FM page (left side), just regular specialties are scheduled. Maybe some Christmas may be mixed in, but it looks like regular programming.
The six-day A to Z by Artists at the end of the month, sounds very appealing!!

I believe they were doing their "Santa Song Of The Day" during October last year. Now we're a few days into November and still no sign of Christmas. It seems like the early bombardment didn't work so well for them last year, though I can still see them going all-Christmas by the time December rolls around.
I'll agree that the Phil Spector album is a classic that can be enjoyed outside of "the season", but that's an exception rather than a rule. Personally, I do not want to hear Christmas music with any regularity before Thanksgiving, and only in moderation from then until the week before Christmas. But hey, I guess a lot of people like listening to it for a month and a half.

I just don't need to be hearing Christmas music in November. Simple as that.

I don't recall the Christmas music giving CBS-FM a very significant bump in the ratings last year...and since then their 12+ ratings have gone up without the aid of holiday music. I think CBS Radio would be better off putting the Christmas tunes on Fresh, to try to siphon listeners away from Lite and increase their TSL as well, and perhaps emerge from the Christmas season with some tweaks to their music and presentation that might keep some of those new listeners there.

with 10% of American's out of a job this christmas season, i'm not sure too many people will be in the Christmas Spirt this year, so for goodness sake, SPARE us from 2 months of Christmas Music on CBS-FM.

If WCBS-FM plays the Spector Christmas Album from 1963, that would be pretty phony and idiotic considering that they essentially have given up on all pre 1964 music. Maybe we can hear tunes from the Billy Idol Christmas Album. As far as Darlene Love being in the Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame.....maybe, at some point, but, there are a ton of artists with many more hits than she had who are not in there such as Chubby Checker and Bobby Rydell. I do agree that the Spector Christmas Album was the best Rock N' Roll Christmas Album of all time with the Beachboys and Four Seasons Christmas Albums running closely behind. All this Christmas talk makes me want to say "shalom".

From today's Daily News:
One station that went all-Christmas last year and won't be doing it again is WCBS-FM (101.1). Program director Brian Thomas says he will only be doing holiday music features on some evening shows.
WCBS-FM's decision could stem in part from the fact it has had a remarkably successful 2009 with its regular music.
So no need to change the station...
