Hi everyone and thank you for reading my post and for your replies and opinions.
I want to especially thank Tony Santiago for actually being at the station and supporting the station we all grew to enjoy so much.
Tony, the last thing I want to do is start a divide of some sort within the dance music community. I was simply stating my opinion and disappointment as a listener in losing a station like Pulse so soon.
But like most listeners, we are unaware of the hidden business behind a radio station. And when we the listeners don't hear what we want any more, we're going to complain, as we all should. To sit back and give things time without stating our opinions as listeners is meaningless, even if it means causing a stir. Nothing wrong with a stir every now and then... that's whats wrong with our society if you ask me. Sitting back and giving things time is what got us as a nation in the mess we're in.
Regarding Party 105, I'd be more accepting if they were the Party 105 from a couple years ago. We all know they don't sound anything like they used to a couple summers ago.
I'm sure everyone involved with Pulse and Party are experienced individuals with dance music's best interest in mind, but I would like to move forward from where Pulse left off, not wait a year for Party to catch up to where Pulse left off.
And yes, BiggieFats, if the banks were actually lending money to small business owners instead of holding on to bailout money making their pockets fatter and raising our interest rates for no good reason, maybe I would have!
So again Tony, I am not looking to ruin anything. Just looking to enjoy my radio once again, and I will support anyone with dance music's best interest in mind.
Regards,
Tom
Tom,
I've been monitoring many of the boards related to Party 87.7 on Facebook and I see the venting going on, with the hip-hop/R&B and repetition being the main complaints.
Yes, the station is NOT Pulse and many people felt upset about Pulse disappearing. However, monitoring these boards as I have, to be honest, Pulse should have ended in August when the lawsuits were coming. The bankruptcy gave them the "reprieve" to last the extra 2 months but the debt was too great to no avail. If anything is to be blamed on the Pulse situation, it is the financials...NOT the format. A million fans came out of this and if anything, it made people VERY passionate about dance music.
I can tell you this Tom, the people at Party FM ARE reading these boards. They are reading all of the accolades as well as the criticisms such as this. Believe me when I say, they are
COMPLETELY AWARE of what is going on here and on the other boards and in due time, they will tweak.
Now, being that you are a potential advertiser, you want the
MAXIMUM results for your business based on you promoting a product on said station. Bottom line....$$$$$. If somehow, you get clientele that like the rhythmic aspect of Party and they want to do business with you, are you going to "kick them out" because they're not into dance? Unfortunately dance music is not as big in this country as other contemporary genres so if you HAVE to mix in (so I was told), a "Jay Z, Akon, Mariah Carey, Young Jeezy" but still have "Kim Sozzi, Lucas Prata, Cascada" and other dance artists in there, that may be the "sell" to get more dance to be exposed. It's really not about the core fans (aka: P1's) in that sense. It's about getting to the general crowd. And if somehow, playing some of the hip-hop could open things up for dance, then its a win win, even for your business plan

. Besides, Pulse DID play their share of R&B/pop in there (Sean Kingston, Justin Timberlake, Akon, etc.) so in that sense they weren't totally "dance" either though for now they have played more.
But give things time, I cannot stress that enough! Vic is a smart guy here and we have to trust that he will do our community proud! So, please....cease fire in here. A couple of these folks have gotten angry and by you "stirring the pot", you are not helping yourself nor the situation. There are a lot of cool people in here and this site was founded by a person who
REALLY LOVED dance music. (looking up in the sky....."Doug Fleming").
If in a couple of weeks things haven't changed, it will be addressed, but in a proper manner. No negativity.

So let's all just continue to enjoy the station

But Tom, no more slamming on anything please. If you don't to believe anyone else in here....believe me. Vic KNOWS what he is doing and we all have to rally together and support. There could be a "bigger picture" out of this which would benefit dance music as a whole. If we are fans of the music, that's what we want anyway, right?
Think of it this way...
we could have had NOTHING!
