The Cockroach's Digital Conversion - June 12, 2010

« on: November 03, 2009, 12:57:00 PM »

How long is the current contract between WTIC 1080 and Premiere to carry Rush Limbaugh's show? After news of CC retaining his show as well as Beck and Hannity to start their own FM talkers in Raleigh and Greensboro, NC, I wonder if a similar move is imminent in Hartford. Especially when you consider Hannity is buried on WTIC in late night, and sometimes pre-empted during Red Sox season. The question is, of course, which of their FM properties would they be willing to blow up in order to launch a talk station?

Could they?  Yes.

Would they?  WTIC is one of the top rated stations in the market.  Why punch a gift horse in the mouth?

OK lets pretend ratings aside, CC did pull it, where would they put it?
They have 3 fms which I would be shocked if they flipped any of them to talk, as they all seem to be sucsessful to CC.
(Stranger things have happened, I know...)
WPOP? You can barely hear it in Windsor Locks.
WTIC? City grade almost to Northampton, MA.

They would be not smart to pull Rush from the flame thrower signal of WTIC.

You pretty much answered your own question.  If you pull that show off WTIC, you'll have every other nationally syndicated talk show that airs weekdays from Noon-3P Eastern lining up in half a heartbeat to take that station.
