... I'm going to bring up a station that does have a lot of syndicated and voicetracking stuff going on. It's a Top 20 market and a CHR that's currently number one in cume and number 4 in share in its market. I'm talking about Channel 93-3 San Diego

Most of that is probably because the mix is customized for San Diego... The new CHR in Baltimore is allegedly supposed to draw on the resources of CC's other CHR's.  Yikes.

BTW: The "Channel" branding for Clear Channel CHR's was a Dom Theodore idea when he was with Clear Channel at Channel 955 in Detroit.  I have alot of respect for Dom even before he was here in NYC and I believe he knows what he's doing with his product.

Incidentally, the station "Z104.3" replaced in Baltimore was the alternative "Channel 104.3" - which was actually patterned after the successful Philadelphia station "Radio 104.5" - a clear clone of WRFF, down to the font.

It will be interesting to watch how the new Z-104.3 Baltimore unfolds once those 10,000 songs in a row are over. I hope they hire some good talent for the station, although it's almost a given that mornings will either mean Kane from Hot 99.5 or Elvis Duran from Z-100.
Management has also stated Z-104.3 will be modeled after Z-100, 102.7 KIIS-FM, and Hot 99.5. All three different sounding CHR/Pop stations, but all are very successful. Hopefully it'll cherrypick the right stuff from each station.
Z-104.3 is already breaking new music - it's playing a great new record from Rihanna called "So Hard".

With regards to 92.3 Now, it's nice to hear that Lisa Paige is doing well in mid-days.
While it's great that Now is doing well with 12-24, I believe Z-100's core demo is 20-30 year olds.

How is that even possible? KHTS Channel 93-3 San Diego debuted in 1997. At the time WKQI Detroit was known as Q-95.5. I don't think WKQI changed names until after Y2K. Perhaps Dom came up with the name for the SD as in KHTS's 93-3's first few months they just simulcated 93.3 FLZ Tampa (where Dom was working at the time).
Even prior to Channel 93-3 San Diego, there were already Modern Rock stations like Channel 93-3 in Denver, and several stations called Channel Z.

Agree or disagree with "wgliradio", it's nice to see you all speak your minds without making it personal. To me, Chunky is a great jock and so is Mo Bounce but for different reasons. I think Chunky says things out loud that are completely inappropriate and too damned funny, while Mo Bounce has a sound and style that defines CHR. In fact, they both did nights for me at different times/stations in my career. Thankfully, they forgot everything we taught them and found success.

Speaking of success KarsonwithaK, I see Mix 104.1 is doing well in the Boston PPMs, up to nearly a 4 share, and Top 5 in cume.

As I'd stated earlier, I thought Chunky sounded pretty good in Detroit. Did he work for you in Memphis at The Q, or back in FL?
I'm pretty sure Mo Bounce worked at Hot 104.9 Tallahassee for a while.

Yeah, Mix as a whole, is doing nicely thus far on the new signal. Mo was with us at WHTF in Tally and Chunky worked for me at HBQ for a year in Memphis.

By the way, Chunky beats Z in women 18-34 at night.

Just here to clarify, Now is not and has not beat Z at night 18-34 women at night... not even close actually.  Just looked at the breakouts.  Although the male numbers on NOW at night have increased quite a bit. (still not beating Z)

Is Elvis Duran killing Now's all music in the morning as well?(in the ratings)

In fact, they both did nights for me at different times/stations in my career. Thankfully, they forgot everything we taught them and found success. 

Gotta say, while I may not love every record that Z or Now plays, I think Chunky is a great at what he does - interacting with the audience, drawing people in with great topics, and being focused on the 18-34 female demo. He knows how to push their buttons and it's an entertaining show overall, even if he isn't doing a show in the same style as a Mo' Bounce or a Broadway Bill Lee (high energy, rapid fire execution of elements, etc).

The one thing I've learned from doing multiple formats is that there's more than one way to skin a cat - some formats/stations require a "Mo' Bounce" execution, others not so tight.

And as far as Ryan Seacrest - the sooner he has a nervous breakdown and gets off the air, the better. He may get ratings, but I just can't stand his show. Gimme a Dan Ingram aircheck on the iPod anyday...
