The Cockroach's Digital Conversion - June 12, 2010

« on: November 05, 2009, 05:39:40 AM »

Do any subscribers have any thoughts about the "News 12" clone launched by Verizon in Long Island as well as New Jersey? From what I've heard, it's already been widely panned. I don't have FIOS but - at the risk of sounding like a MarcB post - my only opportunity to sample the channel is if I am ever at my brother's residence on Long Island. However, when I am there, it is most likely on a weekend. I don't think I've ever tuned in during the week, when it's supposed to be operating a news cycle, similar to that of Cablevision's News 12 as well as Time Warner's New York 1. So I can't speak for their news coverage. From what I read, FIOS1 was promoting the fact that they would be having extensive election night coverage.

Well it's quite different fron News 12. First of all they use the RNN Studios in Westchester and dont actually have a studio here on LI. Its not 24/7 news, they only do newscasts on weekdays and even then there's alot of other programs. Informercials after 12:30am.
So its nothing like News 12. Hopefully as they get more subscribers, they will invest in a LI studio and go 24/7 news.
Until they get their own studios their news capacity will be limited.
