Teacher Fired for Photos on Facebook
« on: November 14, 2009, 09:20:53 PM »

A high school teacher has been fired after a parent complained to the school that there were pictures of the teacher drinking alcoholic beverages during her summer vacation on her Facebook page.

It's a "You're expected to know" world today.
The teacher is expected to be setting the example.
The whole "If it's ok for her to do that, we can do that..." thing.
Is THAT what the problem is?
If so, then I guess she was just demonstrating that there is a time and place for these things, and even though she may have been within her rights to suggest that it's a summer vacation thing, not an every day thing, she still set the example of what's "OK"...

Whatever "OK" is... Huh  Huh  Huh

WHO WANTS TO WORK FOR ANY PLACE THAT PRYS INTO PERSONAL LIVES ANYWAY?
This is an invasion of the woman's personal business and businesses should NOT be involved in anyone's personal lives outside of work,I think she should sue them and win!
Anyone that sides with the school should get their head checked!

If I was this woman, I wouldn't have resigned.  They would have had to fire me.  Then I would have sued the school district for firing me over something like this.  People do still have rights,..don't they?

Why not just go on vacation, soak up the suds and the sun, and NOT post it on Facebook.

Nothing wrong with the previous, but why is it necessary to tell the world what you're doing in your spare time?

Facebook is a way to communicate with your friends and family. It was supposed to be fun.
Not to get fired over.

There is no law for "fun."

Also, Facebook is, while "fun" and great for social networking, is not "private." If you have access, you have access -- not the smartest way to tell friends what you're doing if it could come back to those who think it's not to "their" standards.  A shame, yes, but you make it your business by having stuff posted.  Imagine the feelings of those who don't have stuff posted but find it there, anyway.  Talk about not being fair -- and it doesn't come off.

Got to use common sense in this day and age. Right or wrong --it's you who is responsible for your actions in public, especially in this day and age. Some people are just like that, unfortunately.  But, really, what did you think was going to happen in this day and age, when you're only a cellphone picture to be on a social networking site that you had no idea would look down on you -- or, worse, putting up something that could be termed "compromising" to busy bodies?

Welcome to reality.

Antique Radio Repair/Restoration- Send a PM

Stupid school system.  Unbelievable.    This is another example where a lawsuit is clearly in order.

She was having legal adult beverages, not snorting cocaine off a glass coffee table.
On her OWN TIME,  it sounds like.
Does her job prohibit her from imbibing?  That would be illegal.
What if neighborhood kids saw her in her own back yard, legally enjoying an adult beverage?
Would that be just as much a problem?
Is she supposed to sneak into a corner of her basement to have a drink to ensure that no busybodies are offended?
What then if she were (gasp) seen exiting from an establishment that sells adult beverages....same problem?

Cue up " Harper Valley PTA", somone.

Is this a public school system, or a parochial school?  Or is it  in "Utah"?
