What direction would you take WNCI?

Isn't it obvious? A real rhythmic CHR... or will it become a classic hits station like Fly 92.9 in Dayton? Oh, wait I know what Tony should do with WNCI: Progressive Talk! I hear there's a real audience for it in Columbus.

Methinks this poster has been here before under some other ID.   Grin

I'd say he'll take WNCI on the path that it is on now. Is it still #1 12+? Probably close to it, and if it slipped to 2nd, it'll probably be back to #1 in a book or two. Probably still on top 18-34, 25-54, and with women. Biggest money maker in Columbus? It's gotta be up there pretty high with the $$$ flow too.

So yeah, I wouldn't lay awake at night wondering what big changes the new PD will make at the #1 station in town.

A much better question may be what he's going to do at 93.3 to try and de-throne his former employer!

Are you being facetious? CC Columbus got rid of the Progressive Talk format three years ago. The old CC Columbus PD stated on the air
that they were having problems selling the format and that is why they got rid of it. Gary Richards picked up the format a year later on
WVKO-AM 1580 and that station also failed after a only year because of low sales revenue. They claimed they were having problems
finding good progressive minded sales people and that is why they went under. So, why would he want to kill WNCI and place Progressive
Talk on WNCI? Of course, all the Progressives out there would be thrilled to have the format on that frequiency but Hell would freeze over
before that would happen. I liked the format on WVKO-AM BTY. The BOTTOM line is no one is seriously interested in bringing back Progressive Talk back to Columbus after two failed attempts to do it.

Speaking of the Progressive Talk format, Missoula, Montana shares the distention with Columbus, Ohio in having two failed Progressive
Talkers in the market. Click here for for that new article on the station in Montana: http://www.montanakaimin.com/index.php/arts/arts_article/progressive_radio_goes_silent/4280

I'm confused.  Are you suggesting that having two failed Progressives in a market leads to beer bellies?

I think that's a good point. Whether or not Power beat WNCI in the book shouldn't make WNCI "panic" but I'd still be concerned. WNCI has a much better signal and is heritage. Power's only been doing Urban/Rhythmic CHR since 1997. And they weren't getting the ratings then.

But also look at Power's lineup vs. WNCI

Mornings: PMC (Local) vs. Dave & Jimmy (Syndicated)
Middays: Konata (Local) vs. Seacrest (Syndicated)
Afternoons: Nia Noelle (Local) vs. Chris Davis (Local) *GOOD
Evenings: City (Local) vs. Ty (Tracked from Chicago)

They need to get back to the NCI they used to be.

I'll agree with lovejamminoldies that WNCI isn't as local-based as they once were.  I thought Joe Boxer was excellent on 'NCI until he got blown up in favor of the way overrated(and way overpaid)Ryan Seacrest.  As much as i'd like to see WNCI not be so generic-sounding as they are anymore, I see them staying the course.
Lovejamminoldies...Power has been broadcasting an Urban format since the early 90s...they were originally on 106.3 in the early 90s with the same calls-WCKX-as well.  They moved to 107.5 in 1997.

You don't see nowhere near the syndicated-crap on any other top 50 market.... it's sad.

Joe Boxer IS good and he should've stayed right there on WNCI.

Power has been around for awhile, but do you think they deserve to be beating WNCI? I will say the music is better.
