I was wondering who stole the actual "KISS"! Too bad it wasn't 102.7 KIIS fm, the BIG one that everybody knows and loves (although I think Amp is more fun).

When will we get a REAL TOP 40?

Mix 1079/WVMX/Columbus (owned by Saga) - they're technically 80s, 90s, NOW (Hot AC) but their playlist is reflecting Adult CHR and they're skewing towards that more lately.

IMO they should change their moniker because the "Mix" slogan is associated with hot AC.

Please keep in mind that it's ONLY radio people that think this.  Listeners don't "associate" anything like this unless they have prior experience to draw on (like if their fave station in a different market they lived in was called something).  Besides, Radio has over-hyped the audience so much by now that they barely believe anything you tell them anyway (WE'RE NUMBER 1111  *beats chest*).

You don't just change the name because the station has evolved (rather than flipped).  Do you associate the word "apple" with computers?  Is it because that's a word to describe computers?  Or is it because their superb level of branding makes them one and the same?  If anything, Radio stations need to learn how to better brand their products, and stop worrying about semantics.

The first Hot A/C "Mix" branded station was Mix 105 Orlanndo in 1989.

I am pretty sure the 1st Mix branded station was WMYX 99.1 in Milwaukee...I don't recall the exact year but I believe it was in the mid 80's...like perhaps 83 or 84.  I know I have seen it well documented that it was the 1st hot ac station to use the mix brand.

I first heard Mix being used on CIMX Windsor on a trip to Detroit in the late 80s. In fact, it was the first time I recall being exposed to a hot AC format. It was weird how I never heard any rap music on the station.

New Orleans used to have a CHR called Mix 104.1. It started out as hot AC, but evolved to CHR after B97 switched to a hybrid of talk and CHR at night and weekends. Mix's ratings began to tank and eventually switched to an even more disastrous classic hits format. The Mix name is now on 92.3 after WDVW's rhythmic AC format evolved to hot AC.

Mix 106.5 Baltimore can now be added to that list since they now use the slogan "Today's Best Music"
I picked up Mix 106.5 on my HD radio and the RDS said "MIX 106.5 BALTIMORE'S #1 HIT MUSIC CHANNEL"
