Now that we're 24 hours into it, I can honestly say I've already had my fill for the year.  I will admit the arrival of Christmas music on the radio every year is still an anticipatory event, but it doesn't take long to ask oneself why.  After just one day, I can't believe how I could hear the same songs every time I happen to be listening.  I would love to know just how many songs are actually on the playlist... less than a hundred, maybe?

What used to be The 36 Hours of Christmas in years past has become The 36 Days of Christmas.  It's too bad the music libraries of all-Christmas stations haven't kept up with the expanse of time within which to play them.

Maybe when you count the multiple versions of some songs, you may have a couple of hundred, but overall, by the time Christmas Eve rolls around, what was once special no longer feels like it is.  The only difference with the 36 hours of Christmas is no commercials (save for the sponsor plugs).

Yes, that's a good point.  Honestly, though, I think it loses that special quality by the end of the weekend, let alone by Thanksgiving.  Reminds me of that Hot Hits format from the early '80s with the same 20 songs played over and over.

Switching back & forth between B101 & WJBR and hearing their repetitive limited playlists makes you realize what could be done with the format with a little effort and some research.  Considering there must be 70 years of Christmas material out there with 5 or so new notable releases every year, what happened to it all?  Just this year alone are new releases by Andrea Bocelli, David Archuleta, and even Bob Dylan, but all you hear is the same regurgitation used by all-Christmas stations for the last 5 or 6 years.

That is why I am with 97.5 HD-2 even though its a tough catch....Carla Boniff-First Noel, Mel Blanc-My Sombrereo is Toooo Beeeeg....Josh Groban....Wynonna Judd-Ave Marie....Kenny Rogers-Marys Little Boy.....TSO.....Guiarnati...Ives....Durante....Frank...Dean...Sammy....Surf Christmas...and a ton more that Sunny introduced me too...I just blasted WPEN for putting that moronic sports on their main signal and depriving us of the great music we enjloyed last season with NOW-97.5...

Well, Mike, not sure if you actually heard this or it was just a guess, but, ironically, this was the No. 1 song on the B101 countdown this year.
