Could Steve and Vicki be headed to WYAY True Oldies 106.7 in afternoons??
« on: November 19, 2009, 07:35:58 PM »

I have heard that if Cox radio let Steve and Vicki go, there are plans to put them on the afternoon drive on True Oldies 106.7.  WYAY-FM would then move Freddie Brooks to mid-Morning/early afternoon following Randy and Spiff.  The move could put the final nail in the coffin for Cox`s 97.1 River (True Oldies 106.7 has been beating the tar out of them in recent books).  It is my understanding that Cox is not giving Steve and Vicki the respect that they desire (and deserve).

Won't happen.  Citadel is in such dire condition that they won't put out the real big bucks.  They have added  more local content on some stations, if only to make them more marketable to potential buyers.  WMAL in DC replaced the syndicated Joe Scarborough show with Chris Plante, who was replaced by Scarborough earlier this year.  Supposedly, Bonneville is interested in Citadel's DC cluster.

Yeah, the idea that Citadel can afford or will pay for anybody is pretty funny.  I often wonder if Randy & Spiff are being paid or if they also have to double as account executives.

The part about Cox not knowing or respecting what they have in S&V...probably true.

My guess is the source of this rumor is completely delusional and may even suffer from a case of irrational exuberance.

I heard that too. Cox is going to let Steve and Vicki out of their contract early and not hold them to the no-compete clause. They will then take their huge salary and their well-paid production staff to Citadel and anchor afternoon drive. Look for Kelly & Alpha to come back to B98.5. This story has legs.

What a hoot!  Obviously it's Friday and folks are bored.
Kelly & Alpha coming back to B98?  B98 would voice track mornings first, about the same difference.

First: just because Cox has a bunch of new management and PD's doesn't mean anybody can make a decision but their business cards do look real cool.
Second: Bob Neal made the decision about S&V  based on their years of validity and brand awareness. This is the same guy who still calls it "the new" 97.1 the river years later. This is the same guy who didn't have a single add to the B98 playlist for months this year.
Cox is not an emotional or hormonally driven operation that reacts quickly to ratings or rumors. But I guess this conversation beats the other deep moments like "WGUN is probably the best am station in America."

We used to have credible sources with pretty good comments on this board. Could be worse I guess. We could have some of these posters in a staff meeting slowing it all down.

Is Citadel (or, rather, GT&8O) trying to get everyone in the mood for True Oldies by passing out the brown acid?  If he hasn't eaten it all first.

Are you questioning GT&GO's sources? GT&GO is always correct?
