Bring back a local afternoon drive newsblock.  (Jim Sharpe would be a nice anchor!)

You used to be able to tune into Dennis Miller for some comedy and issues taken in an intelligent way, but he was sent to 10 pm Siberia so that we could be graced by the screaming Mark Levin, at the same time you can tune to 550 for screaming by Mike Savage Weiner.

Earlier in drive Hugh Hewitt is on, but he has been jumping the shark lately, doing 3 hour shows about farmland in Fresno and having evangelicals on the show every day.  zzzzzz

If its dark enough, you can pick up John and Ken doing their annoying scream show from KFI 640.

As for Mac and Cheese, I find that static is much more entertaining.

It worked so well last time KT'R tried it with Ted Simons and Heidi Fogelsong that even the Master Blogger realized that dog wasn't gonna hunt!  In a year's time the internet will be in car radios (you can do it now on some cellphones) and the choice for an alternative to Dumber & Dumbest and J.D. Loudmouth will be unlimited.  In the meantime, give a listen to Mike Nuk'em on KPHX 14~Eighty....he'll make you want to swear off Phoenix radio altogether  Tongue

Really.....do none of you people even think about K-Jazz. Okay, it's a bit stuffy and sometimes too esoteric, but All Things Considered is a great show most of the time. If you're sick of Mac and Gaydos or Hayworth (is it just me or does he sound just like Foghorn Leghorn), KJZZ is at least worth a short listen. You don't know....you might like it.

I am a big fan of Mac and Gaydos.  They're a refreshing change from all the angry, redundant, politi-talk.  They're fun, funny and don't take themselves so seriously.  They deal with the important (to this mom) issues of the day.  Hopefully, they'll stay a team for a long time; their chemistry is fantastic

All Things Considered with Terry Gross, 2pm on NPR (KJZZ), has taken the radio interview to a whole new level. Their guests are as diverse as Leonard Cohen, Richard Thompson, Mike Judge or authors of the latest bestsellers.  Very high quality radio.

NPR on K-JZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ?  The number of listeners under the age of 45 is scarey and demand for in-depth reporting has all but evaporated.  Dumber and Dumbest is a pretty good reflection of where our society is today.  Now the Nurse Czarina and I are headed over to Circle K for lunch before Judge Judy is on FOXTen!

I hear the Circle K Beef Burrito is big in Buckeye.

Did you check the expiration date?  Better get some Rolaids, too. Wink

I was thinking and talking to people about this the other day. Between Mac and Gaydos, Hayworth, Hewitt (never listen), and Newcomb, there are many times when I'll choose Newcomb.  And this is even after I've been listening to Hannity, who I ignored out of a desire to keep my sanity all throughout the Bush years when he was shrill (alright, so he's still shrill, but all the non-Marxists have to give and take a little now).

Of course, the other option is listening to nothing.  Sad when a radio person makes that an option.

And BTW, Mac and Gaydos DO take themselves seriously.  It's part of the act of pretending not to take themselves seriously.  Mac is a nice guy in person, but I think not as good of a fit here, or in his current role.

I initially applauded when Mac y Gaydos joined forces to defeat the evil forces of Mordor. The show was fresh, fun and dare I say it--exciting. Now, one year later, IMHO, the schtick has grown old and stale. There is only so much stuttering and stammering I can stand before I have to turn to music.

Let me give an example- recycled topics. Instead of having multiple topics discussed for each hour, Mac y Gaydos have taken to recycling the topics and discussions from previous hours. When the topic is discussed initially, the discussion is at least fresh and doesn't sound forced. When the topic gets recycled, though, the discussion is forced and attempts to recreate the "witty" banter from the previous discussion falls flat on its face.

If you are going to recycle the topics, why not just tape the first two hours, make your time id's generic (i.e.- it's five minutes after the hour) and voice track for the final two hours. Go home two hours early, save money and leave it in the capable hands of mr. computer and the board op. Problem solved. No charge, Russ.  Grin
