Yes, I having my breakfast at 10 AM in the morning, with a bowl of Cheerios, and listening to Scott Shannon on WLS-FM. Scott is kicking ass and taking names! I love this music he's playing! He's playing "Telephone Line" ELO from the 70's as I type this. They have been playing "my kind of music" all morning, on true internet FM Stereo!
Why can't we have this on FM in Nashville? Watt Hairston, where are you? Let me, Buddy Sadler, & Bill Buntin build a "Pirate FM", 50 KW on a clear FM frequency, and put this on this format on the air for all the Metro to hear. Gosh, every song Scott has played this morning was jamin! It's high time "US NASHVILLE BROADCASTERS" take over 1 channel on FM. Tell the boys in D.C., we pay taxes, and Cumulus and Clear Channel has screwed us over. It's high time that this format is back on the FM dial! I'll do the overnights.
Sorry folks, I'm just wishing! But this music on WLS-FM sounds good. I've only heard one song I didn't like, and I felt was "overplayed" on FM Oldies Stations, The Supremes "Baby Love". I hate that song, but with one radio station, you can please everybody.
Why can't we have this in Nashville? What is wrong with this market?
Sorry about my rant!

When I stream True Oldies, I always stream the Chicago (WLS-FM) feed. Between the network feed and Chicago local programming (like Dick Biondi), it's the best.
"US NASHVILLE BROADCASTERS" — isn't the closest thing left to that Lightning 100? And look what they're doing with their freq. Okay, maybe you can make a case for WSM 650, since Gaylord only owns one station...

dactn63: Good for You! You're doing the RIGHT THING! Keep Scott Shannon's "True Oldies Channel" all day long, NO LOCAL, except for Local Spots and Local PSA's, I'm proud of you, you're doing it right! My opinion is that if your listeners want local news in their town, heck it's all over the internet! Just about all local news papers have had to go to the internet! If people call you wanting local information, tell them where to find it on the internet. If they don't have a computer (or computer access) by now, they are living in the dark ages! Now I can understand people over 75 years old not having a computer, but I'm finding everyday more and more of our Senior Citizens are getting on the internet. We won't see 101.1, The Beat change here in Nashville, I don't think. Even in my opinion, their programming really sucks (that entire noisy rap-hip hop crap); I've been told Clear Channel is going to leave it like it is for now.

Why can't we resurrect WZEZ 'EZ 93'? -Matt Matt, Back when I was 14 or 15, I had a "kickin" stereo system in my bedrooom. WZEZ sounded Real Good on my stereo. Smoothin Muszack, and it was even owned by South Central back then. They bought WZEZ from Bill Barry. Now the way now South Central is getting ratings with 92.9, being #1 in the market with their AC Format, no way it will ever change. It's mass appeal, and works anywhere and everywhere, and yes, they do play some Oldies, mixed with Light Currents. That's why it's Mix 92.9!

The assumption is that 1) only the 55+ crowd listens to oldies (or whatever passes for "oldies" these days) and 2) they won't change their buying habits, so advertising that targets them is a waste of time and money. Well, to that I say:
1) I listen to oldies, and I'm nowhere near 55 (yet). And I'm not alone! I would venture to guess that there are more 20-somethings listening to the Beatles than there are 50-somethings listening to Lady Gag-Gag!
2) I see (and hear) a lot of advertising aimed at the geriatrics (Healthspring, anyone?), so apparently someone out there feels like the 55+ crowd is reachable.

Firepoint, Being you and I are about the same age; the 70's & 80's are Oldies to us. We are from a different generation than are parents are. There are 20 year old females that like the Beatles, but they are not as crazy to hear them as the girls that were in their 20's, say 1964-65. My mother will be 66 December 2nd, and she likes to hear Lady Gag-Gag. Mainly the reason why is my 12 year old niece stays with her quite a bit, my station plays Lady Gag-Gag, but one funny thing, my mother has not seen what Lady Gag-Gah looks like yet, and those weird outfits she comes on stage with. She would die if she saw Lady Gah-Gah! There are people 55+ that will listen to today's current "Adult Top 40". It has a beat, it's fresh, and makes them feel youthful. My late Uncle Jack in Punta Gorda, FL always listened to 96 WINK-FM out of Ft. Myers that was Hot AC. I asked him how come you don't want to hear Oldies and you would rather listen to that station? His reply was, I heard all that old stuff all my life, and when I get out to fooling around in the garage, I love to hear the songs that are out now. This was about 1986 and he was in his 60's then. I can listen to Johnny Rivers “Secret Agent Man”, then turn around and listen to Finger 11’s, Paralyzer, back to back. I believe true music lovers can listen to all types of music. I know you and I can. Oh by the way, this morning on Scott Shannon's "True Oldies Channel", Scott Shannon was playing songs that were new when I was a senior in High School, and on the Top 40 Charts in the early 80's. He played some Hall & Oates, Fleetwood Mac, Queen, etc. Scott has modified the True Oldies Channel to meet the needs of us in our late 40's and early 50's to enjoy as well. He one smart programmer!

I definately agree! It seems more and more there are oldies stations out there being programmed by people who aren't even old enough to remember this stuff or at least don't care enough to do a little history research. Scott Shannon knows it, he's lived it, and his channel sounds great.

Scott Shannon knows it, he's lived it, and his channel sounds great. What people don't give Scott Shannon credit for is that he plays and keeps up with the current " Adult Top 40", or know as Today's Best Hits! Yes, Scott Shannon plays the latest hits from Lady Gah Gah on the morning show in NYC, and probably knows her. He is on WPLJ-FM in NYC every morning and plays today's best hits! Now this is my opinion, I not impressed with his voice on the air, BUT, the man is damn smart! He knows how to make the +55 crowd happy and is living in today's world with young adult in their 20's & 30's with their type of music, and damn well can relate to both demos, makes up funny jokes and pranks to cater to these crowds. What jock, no matter what their age can do, and pull off what he does each day. It goes to show you that YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE THE BEST VOICE ON THE AIR! You have to be a personality and an entertainer. That is what Scott Shannon is to radio; he is as funny with his jokes as Jay Leno, Johnny Carson, and the greats! Look at where he is now, compared to I guess it was 1968-69, when he was doing nights on little WMAK. He kicked ass on Z-100 on NYC, Playing the hits, and having a wild party on the air every morning, and I hear his show on 95 PLJ in NYC is funny as all get out. What I’m trying to say is there are not many people that can pull off what he has done, he kicks Howard Stern, Mancow, and all them others in the butt!
