The Shadow Lord Of NW Radio.......

Usually the Friday before Thanksgiving has always been the day they flip. I am actually kind of surprised they didn't try for an early start this year, with KRWM's smashing current PPM numbers and the holiday format's ratings spike for 106.9 MHz working in tandem.

The country's AC format leader (WLTW/NYC) flipped this morning after initially saying it wouldn't flip till Thanksgiving. Perhaps Warm will flip Monday morning.

It's entirely possible the all-Xmas format could backfire this year - with lots of people out of work (or soon to be riffed), out of their homes and struggling to survive, the last thing they want to hear is "It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year".

Hmmm...recession....hadn't figured that in. Guess I should count my blessings as I untangle all these boxes of Christmas lights....

I was thinking since it still worked pretty good last year and KRWM is perched pretty high on PPM that they would have started earlier than usual - just to snag whoever's getting in the holiday spirit......

Right now, KZAL 94.7 in Manson is the only source of holiday music on NW radio....

I'm not sure about that. Christmas music is all about hope and joy. Like a belt of spiked egg nog, it takes you away from thinking about real-life problems. Non-alcoholic, non-pharmaceutical escapism. And it's free!

KRWM switched this afternoon at 3PM. The last soft rock song was Madonna's "Into the Groove" at 2:56PM. AND, the Christmas Wishes are going this year. I say that the phone lines will be crazy because of the economic crisis this year.

Why don't you call them and find out?

Because 9 times out of 10 they won't tell you.  Atleast in competitive market situations.

I also agree the economy has nothing to do with it.  Don't forget, last year around the holidays we were in a similar economic crisis mode, and most Xmas ratings were through the roof.
