Got to wondering after hearing Richard Harris' "Mcarthur Park" got to wondering how many actors/actresses had made records and possibly had hits with them. I'm talking about people who started out primarily as thespians/TV stars, not pop stars, etc who turned to acting after having making records. Came up with a few, anybody have more?
John Travolta -"Let Her In" Vicki Lawrence- "The Nights The Lights Went Out In Georgia" Robert Mitchum- "Thunder Road" David Soul- "Don't Give Up On Us Baby" John Belushi/Dan Akroyd- "Soul Man" David Naughton- "Makin' It" {as well as the Dr. Pepper commercials: "I'm a pepper, he's a pepper, wouldn't you like to be a pepper to?} Gale Garnett- "We'll Sing In The Sunshine" {probably know more for this song then her acting career though she's been doing TV & movies since the early 60s} William Shatner- "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" & "Rocket Man" Leonard Nimoy- "Ballad Of Bilbo Baggins" Eddie Murphy- "Party All The Time" George Burns- "Wish I Was 18 Again" Tab Hunter- "Young Love" Patrick Swayze- "She's Like The Wind" Don Johnson- "Heartbeat" & "Heartache Away"

I can only think of one other and others that I can possibly think of some more later. One of them was a lesser-known remake that made its way to the charts in 1975. If you remember Ralph Carter who played Michael on Good Times he did a remake of this song originally done in the late 60s by the Marvelettes called "When You're Young And In Love."

Both Pernell Roberts and Lorne Greene of Bonanza released albums, I forget the names, but I have the Robert's album around here someplace. He set my prepubescent heart a beating, I can tell you. Connie Stevens, who appeared as Cricket on some Warner Brother's detective TV series set in Hawaii, also recorded a number of records. And then she went on to marry Eddie Fischer. But then you have recording artists turned actor, like Jamie Foxx, Queen Latifah, Justin Timberlake, Will Smith and, of course, Ozzie and Harriet.

Didn't Pia Zadora crank out a few albums in the 80's with the help of her producer-husband?

I believe Katy Sagal (Married with Childeren/8 Simple Rules) had a record or two that were flops.

The Donna Reed Show had two cast members with hits: Shelley Fabares with Johnny Angel, and Paul Peterson with My Dad.
The Rifleman's Johnny Crawford had Cindy's Birthday, and one or two other forgettables.
Does Annette from The Mickey Mouse Club count? She had Tall Paul and First Name Initial. Meeska-Mooska Mousketeer!

I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned Edd Byrnes' "Kookie, Kookie, Lend Me Your Comb".

Shaun Cassidy, but I'm not sure if the singing or the acting came first for him.
Gwyneth Paltrow sang "Cruisin'" with Huey Lewis, who has, ironically enough, gone into acting.
